Udupi: Two-wheeler rider gets 2.5 yrs jail term for causing death of pedestrian

Udupi, Oct 12: First additional C J and JMFC court has sentenced a two-wheeler rider to two and a half years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for causing the death of a pedestrian.

The convict Bhoja, a resident of Alevoor had driven his two-wheeler recklessly to the extreme left near Muchlikodu temple entrance, Kukkikatte, Badagubettu grama on January 26, 2019 at about 8.30 and hit the vehicle to Jayalaxmi from behind when she was walking beside the road.

The woman fell on to the road and suffered critical injuries to her head and died. Udupi traffic circle inspector had registered a case and submitted a chargesheet against the accused to the court.

As the allegation was proved in the court, the 1st additional C J and JMFC court judge Shyamprasad pronounced the sentence. Assistant government public prosecutor Mohini K argued for the government.
