Delhi Sets Up Task Force to Check Fire Safety Norms

New Delhi, May 3 (IANS): The Delhi government has formed a Special Task Force (STF) to probe fire safety lapses in industrial units, a state minister said Tuesday, four days after a blaze in a west Delhi shoe factory burnt 10 workers to death and injured many.

"An STF has been constituted with representation from all concerned departments and agencies to inspect industrial units and factories to ensure safety measures," said Labour and Industries Minister Ramkant Goswami.

He also said the STF would arrange frequent inspections of industrial units and factories in the city which are at higher risk and monitor the feedback.

"The task force will minutely inspect the enforcement of various provisions of safety in factories and it will be empowered to recommend any strict action in case any violation found in the industries," Goswami said.

On April 28, 10 people were killed and many injured when a fire broke out in a shoe factory at Peeragarhi in west Delhi.
