Lokarpan

1) Modernization of Mallya Gate: New Mangalore Port Authority has 3 entry and exit gates for evacuation movement of the cargo. To de-congest the increasing vehicle movement in the harbour area, modernisation of the main gate from 2 lanes to 4 lanes was taken up and completed at a project cost of Rs.3.30 crores.

The 4 lane gate facilitates exclusive movement of cargo trucks / trailers in one lane, pedestrian and LMV / two wheelers in another lane.

The fully automated exit / entry gates are controlled through RFID and facilitate congestion free and better security control. The gate contains ground plus two floored building on north and south side wherein customs, CISF personnel / other concerned officers can be accommodated.

Four laning of the Mallya Gate has further eased movement of traffic into the port and reduced dwelling time at the gate.

2) Construction of solid waste management facility: New Mangalore Port Authority has taken one more step towards sustainable environment management.

New Mangalore Port is spread over 850 hectares of land comprising 572 quarters in the residential colony covered with thick greenery, fruit bearing trees, medicinal plants, park and gardens. Due to which a lot of solid waste/garbage is generated in this area.

Earlier all generated garbage were handed over to Mangaluru City Corporation. In view of reducing the effect of waste on the environment, health, and so on New Mangalore Port Authority decided to self manage the garbage generated by converting it into high quality manure through vermi-compost technology under the guidance of expert / consultant Dr. Hareesh Joshi.

The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 50 lacs. The vermi-compost unit contains 11 Vermi bins, a slurry tank, and also a shredder machine has been installed in a 300 sq.mt covered shed. The project commenced on December 13, 2021 and was completed on October 12, 2022.

The vermi technology is a method of converting garbage into organic manure using “earthworms”. Earthworm is a bio-engineer which converts waste into useful product like vermi-compost.

From the generated garbage NMPA would produce around 25 to 30 tons manure per year and use it for internal purpose in upkeep of the vegetation in the port premises.

3) Design and development of bilingual website of NMPA: The bilingual website is developed by Centre for Development of Imaging Technology as per the Govt of India Guidelines for Government websites, at total project cost of Rs. 12.25 lacs.

The new website is user friendly and addresses all the requirements of the day-to-day business operations of the Port and its stakeholders. In order to enable ease of doing business operations, several features have been developed in the portal, such as the port users can access the port operating system, Geographic Information System, to know the vacant plots and apply online.

It also enables the users to apply for RFID-based port entry passes. Stakeholders can see daily vessel position in the port. Customers and stevedores can register online for availing port services.

A dedicated portal has been developed for pensioners of the port for making the pension/retirement related information and services handling mechanism accessible online. This enables the pensioners/family pensioners to submit the details online for availing post retirement benefits.

Pensioners can generate pension pay slips, submit medical claims along with its necessary documents, life certificate, and can see Form16 details online.

Family member of the pensioner can also apply for family pension by submitting the required documents through the portal.

4) Construction of PQC Road from main gate to Kudremukh junction: Four laning of the main gate of the port necessitated for better & wider by-lane for movement of heavy trucks inside the port without clogging the National Highway – 66 running adjacent.

Therefore, it was decided to re-construct the 700 metres. “Pavement Quality Concrete”, road connecting between KIOCL junction and Mallya Gate at an estimated cost of Rs.3.75 crores. The work is scheduled to complete in February 2023.

The concretised road would facilitate smooth and hassle free container and other cargo traffic movement into the port without disturbing the traffic in the National Highway.

5) Construction of Truck Terminal near Custom House adjacent to the NH 66: New Mangalore Authority decided to upgrade the existing feasible pavement truck parking terminal near NH - 66 with pavement quality concrete for an amount of Rs. 3.71 crores.

Truck terminal can accommodate about 200 heavy trucks. The work is awarded with commencement date on Oct 1, 2022 and completion date as Oct 31, 2023.

The benefit of the this truck terminal would be to avoid the parking of vehicles on the road side.

? Hygienic facilities/rest rooms to truck drivers, results in safe driving of trucks.

? Eliminate theft of batteries/tyres etc.

? Minor repairs of trucks can be carried out.

Port is continuously developing infrastructures to facilitate easy movement of traffic in the port area.

During this occasion, other dignitaries such as Mauvin Godinho, Minister for Transport, Industries, (Lok Sabha) Panchayat & Protocol, Govt of Goa; Atanasio Monserate, Minister for Revenue, Labour & Waste Management, Govt Of Goa; Rohan Khaunte Minister for Tourism, IT & Printing and Stationery, Govt of Goa; Subhash Phal Dessai, Minister for Social Welfare, River Navigation Archives and Archeology, Govt of Goa; Vinay Tendulkar MP, (Raiya Sabha); Francisco C Sardinha, MP, (Lok Sabha); Krishna (Daji) V Salkar, MLA, Vasco; Sankalp Amonkar, MLA Mormugao and Dr. A V Ramana, chairman, NMPA & MgPA were present.

Why is an operational expense becoming an inaugural event nowadays? Eg website revamping project costing just 12 lacs ..for such a large port becoming a news item ? Does this website provide any online transactions for the consumers of the port services? What is the progress on the Kulai port and other development activities ?

Thanks for all these project started and in works by congress. These projects did not mushroomed out all of a sudden in 2014. They have long history going back to congress era. BJP just put its name stamp over them. That’s All.
