Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Oct 13: “The Surathkal highway toll gate issue will be solved within the next 15 days”, said National Highway Authority of India regional officer M K Vatare.

He was speaking in a meeting presided over by the deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V at the DC office auditorium in this connection on October 13.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V said cases against the concerned contractors will be registered and they will be arrested if accidents occur between NITK Surathkal and Nanthur due to potholes.

“Notices should be issued to the contractors and the potholes should be closed immediately. Otherwise criminal cases will be registered against them,” he said.

He directed that the road from Surathkal to NITK junction should be repaired within the next seven days after holding a meeting with the corporation commissioner and the concerned officials.

“The service road from Nanthur junction till B C Road at a length of 14 kilometres is also being constructed at a cost of Rs 19 crores,” said Lingegowda.

The DC has asked to hand over a list of service roads being repaired by the highway authority.

“The Kuloor flyover work should be completed soon.  There should be no problems during the next monsoon. The potholes from Pump well to Talapady should be closed. The contractors should work as a part of the government after assigning the contract. Issues if any should be brought to the notice of the district administration. The district administration will try to solve them,” he said.

Discussions over acquiring land at Addahole – Periadka Bikarnakatte limits and taking up works at KPT and Nanthur junctions were held in the meeting.

Corporation commissioner Akshay Sridhar, additional DC Krishnamurthy, national highway authority officers and contractors were also present.

'Within a fortnight' will not come for at least for another two years!! The road near kulur junction was dug up for some repairs is still there ....May be our Road and transport Minister's version of 'American Standard Road' - Indian version for everyone to feel!!

I do hope its not just a promise.. Its a shame that they have to be REMINDED of their responsibilities.... Will they clear the Surathkal Junction Traffic Mess.... The Service road is full of craters.... Ideally a Subway should be built under the Flyover near the Service Bus stand for West to East bound Two/Three n Four wheelers.... Taking U turn near Hotel Suraj is Life Threatening......

“The Surathkal highway toll gate issue will be solved within the next 15 days”, Probably this means all lacking facilities at that toll gate such as employees accommodation, toilets, permanent structures etc, will be built within this period.

How many times have we not heard this same song during past many years? They are just fooling the people. Why do they need 15 days? If they are genuine, this toll gate can be closed by midnight today.

Please note that he has only said that the issue will be addressed or settled (or whatever magic word he has used) within a fortnight, but he has not said that the toll gate will be closed or terminated. There are hundred ways to hoodwink the piblic: they can give it a new name or shift it to another nearby place. Just wait for a fortnight and see. By the way, how many days are there in a fortnight?
