Mangalore: Five Deacons Ordained Priests

Report and Pics: Fr Victor Vijay Lobo

Mangalore, May 3: Five deacons were ordained priests for the diocese of Mangalore on Tuesday May 3 by bishop of Gulbarga diocese Robert Michael Miranda. The ordination ceremony was held at Our Lady of Miracles Church here in the presence of near and dear ones of the newly-ordained and hundreds of devotees. More than 125 priests, nuns and religious brothers and sisters were present on the occasion.

The bishop in his homily highlighted the significance and challenges of priestly ministry in today's world. Enumerating the kingdom of earth and the kingdom of heaven with examples, he said a priest is called upon to build the kingdom of God.

Later, the newly-ordained priests concelebrated the holy eucharist with the bishop. Fr Boniface Pinto, director of Mangala Jyothi, Diocesan Biblical and Catechetical Centre animated the Liturgy.

After the holy eucharist a short felicitation programme was organised by the diocese. Fr Henry Sequeira, chancellor of the diocese introduced the newly-ordained priests and wished them well. Fr Joseph Martis, rector of St Joseph's Seminary greeted the new priests on behalf of the seminary. Dr Robert Miranda , bishop of Gulbarga was present on the dais and greeted the new priests. Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, vicar genereal of the diocese presided over the felicitation programme. He wished the newly-ordained priests on behalf of the bishop and the diocese of Mangalore. Fr George Vijay Kumar Crasta, one of the new priests, expressed gratitude on behalf of the newly-ordained priests.

Fr Walter D'Mello, parish priest of Milagres Church welcomed the gathering. Fr Alfred Rayan D'Souza, vice-rector of Gladsom Home, Minor Seminary of Mangalore diocese compered the programme.

You 5 have embraced a life that is with less difficulties and more fortunes.
A life without work but enough food.
A life without knowledge but projected to be a wise person.

A life that makes a couple to assume your vocation is superior than their own. They feel marriage and procreation is far inferior than being a priest.

All the best for your choice.

Almighty God has given Us, you five new priests as Shephards,to guide us Catholics through our faith,in goodness and sadness. May Almighty God bless all of you with good health and long Priestly life.
Also my prayers are for your parents for leading you to this day.
I have a request to all five of you. You have taken vows laying in front of Tabernacle in your Priestly Robes. Please wear these robes while you conduct prayer service during Christening function,Roce, wedding dinner or any other Catholic function. Show Us that you are our shephard who can be identified as Apostole of God. Now a days a Rev.Father will conduct prayers, standing in front dressed up like attending a Cricket game or a beer party. He wears the stole on top of Kurtha or a "T" shirt with advertisement logo on it. Even there is a priest comes having a drink(Guess what),to conduct prayers and MUMBLES whatever comes to His mouth because He is high on alchohol.
So dear Rev.Clifford,Rev. Wilson,Rev.George,Rev.Sunil and Rev.Vishal, please identify yourself as Reverend Priest and Apostole of Christ like our old time Priest have done. They were not ashamed. Our Martyrs were not ashamed to say they were followers of Christ. Good Luck to all of You.

A priest is a lover of God. A priest is a lover of men.
A priest is a holy man because he walks before the Face of the All Holy.
    A priest understands all things.
    A priest forgives all things.
    A priest encompasses all things.

The heart of a priest, like Christ's, is pierced with the lance of love.
The heart of a priest is open, like Christ's, for the whole world to walk through.
The heart of a priest is a vessel of compassion.
The heart of a priest is a chalice of love.
The heart of a priest is the trysting place of human and divine love.

A priest is a man whose goal is to be another Christ.
A priest is a man who lives to serve.
A priest is a man who has crucified himself, so that he too may be lifted up and draws all things to Christ.
A priest is a man in love with God.
A priest is the gift of God to man, and of man to God.
A priest is a symbol of the Word made flesh.
A priest is the naked sword of God's justice.
A priest is the hand of God's mercy.
A priest is the reflection of God's love.
