Mangaluru, Oct 15: The 3rd Additional District Sessions court sentenced a Mangaluru City Corporation official to four years of imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 1 crore in a disproportionate assets case.
The official Shivalinga Kondaguli, a sanitation inspector was apprehended by the Lokayukta in a bribery case registered on February 15, 2013 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, Section 13(1) E, 13(2).
Judge B B Jakati of the court delivered the judgment on Friday.
The court ruled that if the accused fails to pay the penalty his jail term can be extended by another year.
Lokayukta sub-inspector Umesh K Shet had conducted the probe against the MCC official and submitted a chargesheet to the court. Ravindra Munnipaadi was the public prosecutor.
It was found that the accused Shivalinga Kondaguli had assets worth Rs 76 lac which was disproportionate to his known source of income.
