New Delhi, May 4 (PTI): The ladies compartment of Delhi Metro has not only made travelling easier for women in the national capital but has also added to the coffers of DMRC.
Metro reserved the first coach of every train for women from October 2 and since then there have been regular incidents of men forcing their way into the special coaches due to over-crowding in the other compartments.
"From October 2 last year till March 31, 2,506 people have been punished for unlawful entry into the coach reserved for women and penalty of over five lakh has been generated from them," DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal said.
He said, "We have found that compliance has improved from the time we started the separate compartment. It definitely has decreased.
