Bengaluru, Oct 15: JD(S) leader in the Assembly and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention against the attempts of Hindi imposition on the entire country.
Speaking to media persons at the party office in Bengaluru on Saturday, he said forcible imposition of Hindi would seriously damage the country’s unity.
Kumaraswamy condemned Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s attempts to impose Hindi on the entire country and destroying several languages, "Is this how the regional languages are encouraged,’’ he asked.
The JD(S) leader urged Modi to personally intervene and advise the Home Minister. "What is the point in repeatedly talking about Hindi as national language when there are hundreds of languages? The other scheduled languages have no place in the country if this goes on,’’ he said.
Kumaraswamy said repeated assertion of Hindi imposition would harm the unity and integrity of the country. The report of the committee headed by the Home Minister and submitted to the President on Hindi cannot be accepted, he said.
The former Chief Minister said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has already registered his strong opposition and protest. Similar protests are taking place in West Bengal and Kerala. "The ruling BJP is seeking to destroy regional languages through its one nation and one language policy,’’ he said how can the country be built by suppressing other languages.
The JD(S) leader said the imposition of Hindi at the cost of other languages will never be tolerated. There are other far more serious problems. India has slipped to 104 th position out of the 120 countries on the poverty index. The Centre should worry about this, he said warning that JD(S) will join Kannada organisations in protesting against the Hindi imposition.
Attacks BJP, Cong Yatra Politics
Kumaraswamy condemned both the national parties of BJP and Congress, which were nothing but two sides of the same coin. While Congress is taking out Bharat Jodo Yatra,
BJP has launched Jan Sanlap Yatra. These yatras will not help the two parties, he said warning that Southern States will reject both parties.
The JD(S) leader criticised the Basavaraj Bommai regime for suddenly taking out the Justice Nagamohan Das commission report for increasing the reservation for Scs and STs ahead of elections, which is nothing but an election gimmick. Why no decision was taken during the last 2 years or why the previous Congress government put the commission report in cold storage, he asked.
The JD(S) leader said his party would be launching its own Pancharatna Yatra, which will be launched from November 1.
He said the JD(S) will be holding meeting of party legislators and other leaders on October 18 and 19 to finalise the Pancharatna Yatra detals and also hoisting Kannada flags on Rajyothsava Day. Plans to distribute Kannada flags to all houses will also be decided, he added.
