Bantwal: Weapons used to threaten Beltangady MLA Harish Poonja seized

Bantwal, Oct 16: Police have seized two mobile phone handsets and a spanner rod range weapon kept in the car of the accused who had threatened Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja.

The accused, Riyaz (38), a resident of Falnir in Mangaluru was arrested on Friday and the devices used by him were seized by the police on Saturday.

The accused had waylaid the MLA's car and threatened him.

At the preliminary stage of investigation it did seem that the incident occurred over the overtaking of vehicles and the police had not found any weapons in the vehicle that was seized, according to Superintendent of Police Hrishikesh Bhagawan Sonawane.

The accused had flashed a 'L' shaped weapon to the complainant and the police said after investigation it was found that the seized weapon was the same as that of the one used by the accused.

The police had conducted a search in the house of the accused and seized two mobile phone handsets.

Police said further investigation is on.
