Bantwal, Oct 16: A man came under a passenger train and died near Mittur on Sunday, October 16 night.

The train from Mangaluru to Puttur was slowly crossing Neralakatte when the man accidentally came on the track and came under the train, reportedly. .Since the train was moving slowly, the loco pilot could stop the train and take the severely injured man aboard. Though the pilot rushed the injured to Puttur railway station inorder to take him to a hospital he died on the way. An ambulance too had arrived from Puttur hospital based on the information by the loco pilot.

The body is kept at the train station by the railway police to be carried to the morgue. It is yet to be identified.

As my dad's friend was a motorman in the suburban local network of Central Railway in Bombay I was a witness to one such incident. Otherwise this is an exceptional case. Per the railway rules, loco pilot and guard have to stop the train, get down, obtain help from the surrounding locals ... (if accident has not happened in a remote area and if lucky to get some local help extricate the body (if possible)) complete the bureaucratic panchnama, wait for the authorities from the nearest railway station to arrive and then only can proceed further after the victim has been taken away after completion of all mandatory formalities... never mind if precious time of passengers is lost or bunching up of trains one behind the other. Inspite of mass awareness, our stupid people like to jeopardise their own lives and do not know how to value the precious time of the public (passengers).

Joseph Qatar, I liked your comments and there is no doubt about it. I was born and brought up with my family in Bombay now Mumbai and then migrated to New York. During our childhood, we have seen many such people who have come under moving trains. I lost my friends and one teacher. That was life.
