Mangalore, May 6: Akshaya Tritiya, falling on the auspicious third day of the bright half of the lunar month of Vaisakha of the traditional Hindu calendar observed on Friday May 6 resulted in great inflow of customers to the jewellery shops, thanks slash in gold rates. The gold buying were at its peak at leading jewellery stores in city.

Consumers were also provided with attractive discounts and free gifts on the purchase of gold jewellery by most jewellers.

It has become a practice in recent years that people across coastal regions throng jewellery showrooms since early morning to purchase gold and diamond ornaments on the day. 

Mainly customers were seen buying gold ornaments while some other  buying gold coins.

Not surprising with the lot of jewellery shops across the city, various places wore a festive look with families heading towards the jewellery shops to buy gold.
