Dubai: Tributes Paid to Ivan Noronha at `Lancy's Musical Nite'

Dubai: Tributes Paid to Ivan Noronha at `Lancy's Musical Nite'

Dubai, May 7: Singer and musician, Lancy Noronha's 27-year-old dream of organizing his own musical nite became a reality after a long wait on Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Sheikh Rashid auditorium in Dubai.  Entrepreneur, Konkani enthusiast, singer and managing director, Merit Freight Systems LLC, Joseph Mathias' unstinted support in organizing this event under Shylan's banner was much appreciated by the august gathering, which came together at the same venue for a second time after the Daiji Dubai anniversary event held last Friday.

The show was organized as a tribute to the late Ivan Noronha, who was a famous singer. Noronha breathed his last in 2008 at the age of 48.

Singers from Dubai, Mangalore, as well as Mumbai, performed at the event. Music for the programme was arranged by none other than Remiro Mascarenhas, who is very famous both among Goans and Mangaloreans.

The event started with some of the finest dances by the children from Ocean Kids, trained by Vinod Sequeira. They danced for four of the Hindi medleys and later, the children from Golden Talents Music Centre performed Indian classical dance, which was brilliant.

The musical programme started with a prayer song, `Namo Namo Parameshwara', rendered by Lancy Noronha and group, which was ably supported by Ocean Kids with their beautiful dance.  Reshma Coutinho, Angelore, rendered a solo love number, which was followed by Wilfy Nite fame, Prem Kumar's foot tapping `Nach-go Baye'.

In the first half of the programme, Lancy Noronha presented a solo song titled `Fabella', while Joseph Mathias sang `Annachi'.  The husband and wife duo of Lancy and Shyna presented `Mumma'. Rony Lobo from Abu Dhabi sang `Mai'. Lenita Noronha's `Sobhit Fula' was soothing to the ears, while Yash Pinto, Sharjah, mesmerized the crowd with his attractive voice, singing `Sakallim Udthana'.  There was a group song titled `Vande Mataram', and Lancy Noronha paid a fitting tribute to his uncle, Ivan Noronha, by singing `Sopnantli Choligo Tum'.  But it was Kenny Zuzarte, who has been singing for the past 31 years and waiting his name to appear in the Limca Book of Records for giving more than 2500 shows as a female presenter, who made everyone to dance to his `Musumbi' number.

Jerry Rasquinha and Joseph Pinto once again proved that they are the numero uno comedy kings of Konkani stage with their sharp presentation of some of the hilarious jokes.

During the occasion Joseph Mathias, managing director, Merit Freight Systems LLC, was felicitated. He was draped with a shawl and decorated with a traditional turban by Melvyn Rodrigues, director- operations, Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd.  Shobha Mendonca, Reliable Fabricators LLC Dubai, presented flowers and fruits' basket and Dayan D'Souza, director, Daijiworld Weekly. presented a memento. Shyna Noronha presented a citation.

In his address, Melvyn Rodrigues made a mention of the late Ivan Noronha's contribution to Konkani music, and told the audience that the late singer’s nephew, Lancy Noronha, was inspired by Ivan. “Lancy Noronha is a dreamer, and his dream has become a reality after a long wait. He had all the patience to wait this long.  Patience leads a man towards perfection,” he said. He applauded Joseph Mathias for supporting this event, particularly his gesture of encouraging young talents from Dubai and India.

Dayan D'Souza released a booklet containing Lancy Noronha's songs on this occasion.  Arthur Pereira's musical album, `Pani Pani Barsa', was released by Harish Sherigar, ACME Building Materials and Trading LLC. Shodhan Prasad, correspondent, daijiworld.com, was present on the dais along with Arthur Pereira.

In the second half, Joseph Mathias presented Ivan Noronha's hit song, `Sophia'. Dony and Asha Correa's `Gupit Mog' was enjoyed by one and all.  While Lancy, Joseph, Shylan and Lenita presented `Neketr Udelam', Mario rendered `Manglur Shera' with his soul-touching voice.  There were songs by Zarina and Shylan, who presented `Sodam Sakallim', Lancy Noronha's `Nadar', Vinod Rodrigues' `Parkantlo Mog' and a Tulu number from Lancy Noronha, which was a great hit.  Ocean Kids gave a stunning dance performance for this solo number.  Kenny Zuzarte presented two numbers - one Tulu, and the other, a Konkani song.  But the duet song, `Suzanna' by Vincent Rodrigues and Lancy Noronha, was the best number of the programme, which was appreciated by all.

Joseph Mathias proposed vote of thanks. He gratefully recollected the support extended by all the sponsors, especially Ronald Colaco, Michael D'Souza, Lawrence D'Souza, S J Lewis, Paul Raju and Clifford.  Comedy King, Francis Fernandes Cascia, felicitated Jerry Rasquinha, Joseph Pinto, Kenny Zuzarte, Prem Kumar and Remiro Mascarenhas on the occasion.  Joseph Mathias felicitated Lancy and Shyna Noronha.  Jerry Rasquinhas spoke on behalf of the artistes from India.  “In spite of the economic crisis in the middle east, your strong support and true love for Konkani has kept the Konkani spirit alive,” he said in his message.

While Uttam Menezes was the master of ceremony for the entire musical show, Roshan D'Silva compered the stage programme on both occasions.

There was Remiro Mascarenhas on keyboard, Victor on the drums, Philip Fernandes on trumpet, tenor, soprano and saxophone was by Jackson, bass guitar by Vincent Rodrigues, Flute by Presh and lead guitar by Benny Cardozo.

The show ended with a trio number by Lancy Noronha, Prem Kumar and Joseph Mathias.

    Dear Lancy & Team,

Well done on a performance that was very entertaining. Congratulations on the success of your maiden nite.

@Joel Pinto - you have pointed out to Evon on his appreciation for the his first ever event in the Konkani community event. People like you are solely responsible for making steer clear of programs like this as you only know to criticize peoples comments. I in particular as a youth try to be interested and be a part of the community but such comments from people like yourself would make us or me in particular stay away from the Konkani community.

If you don't have anything nice to say about any person don't say anything about it. Do you think with comments like yours would actually make people feel like appreciating something in the fear that they would be insulted.

Please be nice and be respectful. It will make people love the community more.

Congratulations to Lancy and his team to put together a show that was emotional, funny, entertaining and perfect for the whole family.

The music, the set up and the organisation was very well done!
Everything was in order and there was no chaos. Just would wish the MC – Uttam would have put a bit more of a heart into his compeering and would be more appealing.

A big thank you to Mr. Joseph who has supported a great talent and brought in new rising stars to the stage. It was great over all with great entertainment till the end.

Job Well done All!! Looking forward for more concerts from you’ll.

    Dearest Shylan.

We must congratulate you both for organising such a beautiful and a memorable event. This was the first time we have ever attended such a function. We and all our family members enjoyed it to the fullest. Your songs are still ringing in our minds. Specially anachi, I just did't realise Joseph Mathias was the pillar behind you. He is such a simpleton. Our heartfelt appreciations to him and his family. All your songs pierce us through the heart, like pabella, gupit mog, vande matharam etcc.. We would like to thank a million gerry and duje who brought laughter into everyones lives. May they be blessed in keeping people happy. If there is a cd being made, we too would like to buy a copy to remember this beautiful event so well organised and disciplined. We pray you bring about many more such events to keep us alive.

FIRST SONG WAS EXCELLENT BY A YOUNG LADY,THE SONG BY YOUNGEST BOY WAS GOOD & A SONG FROM SEMIFINALIST(A MAN WITH GLASSES) WAS GOOD. MUSIC BY REMIRO WAS EXCELLENT,DANCE BY OCEAN KINDS(YOUNG ONES) WAS GOOD. LAST SPEECH BY JERRY OR DUJE(ONE OF THEM) WAS EXCELLENT & HIGHLY MATURED. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT FROM PREM A PREDOMINENT EXCELLENT LEGENDERY SINGER OF YESTERYEARS(MAY BE HE WAS NOT USED PROPERLY).CHEAP JOKES (SPECIALLY ONE WITH VOMITTING)was very dirty!. CASUAL ENTRY BY COMEDIANS ON STAGE WAS GLARING & should be rectified in future. COMEDY ACTORS WERE EXCELLENT BUT JOKES SHOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER THEIR APPEARENCE/DRESSING IN SOME SCENES WAS POOR. ONE has to appreciate the efforts taken by lancy .We wish him all the best for future.

    Dear Lancy,

Congratulations. Nice songs. Eventhough this is your first show, very well organized. We know the difficulty and struggle in organizing an event in dubai. From getting the approvals till you come to the stage. It may be a hard work of two to three months. I take this opprtunity to congratulate Mathis and Lancy. Well done. Giving an opportunity for 68 talens to the is not a joke in UAE. Hatts off to you guys. Keep up the good show. Encourge new talents. It is easy to bring the professionals by paying them but too hard to bring up hidden talent to show case their talent. Once again big thanks and Ramcy good coverage. Thanks for all the people who came to support this event. I am fan of Lancy& Ivan for the past 25 years.

He will needless to say send you myriad Godsends from heavenly garden.

Well my musical dost Joseph Mathias who should be appreciated with golden words..especially for his always helping hand to the new hidden talents. Jossie three cheers and God bless you my dear.

Though I was not present on this show, my heart thank the gathered crowd for making the musical show a heavenly success. God bless to the people who worked behind the screen.

The first solo song by Reshma was excellent because of soft rhythm and a great lead guitar by Benny (I guess he played it in this song). His guitaring style is beautiful and he has talent. For example the first song ಆಶೆಲ್ಲೊಂ in Vincent Fernandes’ ‘ಮೊಗಾಚಿಂ ಲಾರಾಂ’ where he played superb guitar.

I ain’t got no comments on the rest of the songs in yesterday’s programme.
