DC tells Surathkal toll gate protesters to put off agitation
Deputy Commissioner Dr Kumara has suggested to the Toll Gate Horata Samithi to put off its agitation scheduled for October 28 until the government officially passes a gazette notification to scrap the Surathkal toll gate.
A meeting was held at DC’s office on Thursday, October 27 that was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Dr Kumara himself.
“The Toll Gate Horata Samithi needs to be patient enough until the government passes a gazette notification. The process is in the final stage. The Toll Gate Horata Samithi should not hold protests or take untoward steps at the national highway near the Surathkal toll gate," he said.
NHAI project director Lingegowda said, “Minister Nithin Gadkari has directed the authorities to remove the Surathkal toll gate. A gazette notification is pending. It is not possible to say exactly when the notification will come into effect. So we urge the Surathkal Toll Gate Horata Samithi not to stage any protest against the collection of tolls at the Surathkal toll plaza which is scheduled for October 28.
Speaking to daijiworld.com, Muneer Katipalla said, “It is not the first time they have assured us about removing the toll gate. We are not in a stage to trust any kind of assurance given to us regarding the move to remove the Surathkal toll gate. We will stage a protest against the Surathkal toll gate, until the toll collection is completely stopped or there is an official gazette notification to that effect from the government. We have got permission from the police to hold a peaceful rally.”
Mangaluru City Police Commissioner N Shashikumar, DCP Anshu Kumar, Assistant commissioner Madan Mohan, Toll gate Horata Samithi legal advisor Dinesh Hegde Ullepady, Imthiyaz, Aziz and others were present.
