Udupi, Oct 29: Police arrested Moulali Jamadar, resident of Patel Nagar in Dandeli, in connection with a theft that occurred in the city.
Prema Shenava, a resident of the city, was returning home on October 3, after partaking in the Chandikayaga that was held at Mahishamardini temple. Accused Jamadar had snatched a 50 gram weight chain from Prema’s neck at a deserted place near MGM College grounds. A case in this connection was registered in Udupi police station.
The police took visuals from a nearby CCTV and mobile phones and came to know that the stolen gold was sold to a jewellery shop near Toll Naka in Dharwad.
The accused also confessed to stealing gold ornaments from the house of Dr Prajna K Srikanth of Kadiyali in 2021. Gold worth Rs three lac weighing 63 grams in this case was also confiscated by the police.
Jamadar has several cases filed against him in police stations at Dandeli, Bagalkot, Dharwad in Karnataka and Madgaon and Ponda in Goa. He was recently released from prison.
SP Hake Akshay Macchindra directed the operation. Police inspector Pramod and personnel of crime department participated in the same.
