Congress, JD-S Rally Against Yeddyurappa Rule

Bangalore/Shimoga, May 9 (IANS): The Congress and Janata Dal(Secular) in Karnataka staged rallies Monday in Bangalore and Shimoga, respectively, against "corruption" and "various scams" in the Bharatiya Janata Party government led by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

The Congress took out a march from the Freedom Park here to Raj Bhavan, about a km away, and submitted a memorandum to Governor H.R. Bhardwaj demanding action against the Yeddyurappa government for failing to stop illegal mining and "indulging in massive corruption and illegal land deals".

"The governor has assured that he would act on our memorandum within the constitutional limits of the governor's office," state Congress president G. Parameshwara told reporters after meeting Bhardwaj.

Ahead of the march to Raj Bhavan, Congress leaders addressed a party workers meeting at the Freedom Park attacking Yeddyurappa and the BJP for "corruption not seen during Congress rule in the country or any state".

Central Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress general secretary Oscar Fernandes, party leaders in charge of state affairs Sanjay Nirupam and Madhusoodan Mistry, and leader of opposition in the assembly Siddaramaiah addressed the party workers.

The JD(S), which launched a "Janandolana" (people's agitation) against the Yeddyurappa government May 6 by taking out rallies in different parts of the state, concluded it with a public meeting in Shimoga, Yeddyurappa's home district, about 280 km from Bangalore.

JD(S) president and former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda and his son and former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy slammed the BJP government and Yeddyurappa for "favouring his kin in land allotment, large-scale corruption and allowing rampant illegal mining".

Sensible comments by Mr. Jossey Saldanha, Mumbai / Mapusa.

Corruption allegations are there on Central ministers as well as Chief Minister and his collegues. Only difference is UPA is not protecting these people and taking action (already some are in Jail).

When BJP will take action Corrupt Chief mainster and his collegeus and put them in Jail?

BJP or its supporters never thought UPA can take any action on powerful politicians and put them in Jail. Now they are shell shocked with the developments and are not in a position to take high moral ground on the corruption issue.

    Congress, JD(S).
Stop day dreaming of coming back to power by pointing fingers at BSY because you are not clean either.
Such tactics will not work as BSY is street smart and to beat him you have to drastically change your election strategy.
    1. Both of you have to bury your differences and fight elections jointly to combat BSY.
    2. Take one corruption issue at a time and don’t rest till you have put the last nail in their coffin. Your job has been made relatively simple as many investigation agencies including SC have already indicted GJR and BSY.
    3. Your "Janandolana" has to reach the rural voter. 70% of Karnataka voters live in rural and most of them are backward and uneducated. These voters do not read newspapers and mostly vote by hearsay. BSY merrily misleads these voters by giving huge donations to temples and posing for photographs with Swami’s. For them BSY is next to GOD.
    4. BJP is flushed with illegal mining funds and Karnataka voters have been induced earlier with liquor and money.
    5. Moral Policing – A new strategy adopted by BJP to project them selves as a party with high morals only to camouflage their corruptions, scams, frauds, misrule and misdeeds
    6. BSY is blindly following Modi’s game plan “Attack minorities and appease majority”. Right wing groups affiliated to BJP like BD, VHP, RSS and SRS attack minorities and vandalize their places of worship.
    7. Start working on your election agenda right away, convince the “aam admi” and systematically expose BSY.
