In 2021, ‘Metro Man’ Dr E Sreedharan had written a letter to Jeevan Saldanha, president of Dakshina Kannada CII in which he said that it is possible to reduce the travel time between Bengaluru and Mangaluru to just four hours if direct railway track is laid through Shravanabelagola.
The industrialists of coastal region opine, “Mangaluru port is the gateway of Karnataka. MRPL, SEZ, Baikampady and Yeyyadi industrial estates, large, medium and small industries are the economic power centres of state as well as the country. These industries are expecting faster transportation facility with the innovations in technology. In addition, it will develop tourism also. If superfast train is provided, industrial sector and tourism both will flourish.”
Jeevan Saldanha, chairman of CII, Dakshina Kannada said, “We have submitted an appeal for superfast train system through Shravanabelagola to Bengaluru, to chief minister Basavaraja Bommai through CII chairman of Karnataka. Our team will participate in the GIM and bring to the notice of local, central and state representatives of the need of superfast train to the coastal region as well as improvement of fundamental infrastructure. Earlier, Dr E Sreedharan had positively said that this is possible. If this becomes true, then the whole picture of coastal region will change.”
