Mangalore: Tulu Janapada Kreedotsava at Moodbidri to Mark Airport's Diamond Jubilee

Mangalore, May 10: As part of diamond jubilee celebrations of Mangalore Airport, Mangalore Airport Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee has planned to hold Tulu Janapada Kreedotsava, a competition of regional folk games at Swaraj Maidan, Moodbidri on Sunday May 29, said K Tejomaya, co-ordinator of the committee.

The competition will be inaugurated in the presence of Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade. Local MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Dr Mohan Alva and SDM College, Ujire principal Yashoverma are spearheading the preparations for the competition. The services of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project volunteers too will be available for the smooth functioning of the events.

Various Competitions, Enrolment Eligibility and Date

Lagori, Kutti-dhonne, Hagga-jaggata and Shakti Kallu events for men and Jubilee, Kallata, Donka,Hagga-jaggata and Chenna Mane for women will be held. Men and women from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod can participate. Three teams from a taluk can enter their names through SKDRDP members before May 20.

Memorandum for Extension of Airport Runway

Thejomaya added that union minister for law M Veerappa Moily has forwarded a memorandum submitted by Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry to union minister for civil aviation availing Rs 20 lac for the purpose of extending runway at the Mangalore airport from the current 8,000 ft to 10,000 ft so that international Airport status is granted by December 21.

    Nice to see both Mr. Tejomaya and Mr. Prabhakar Shriyan who are the few sincere politicians left in Dakshin Kannada today.

    I have been in close contact with these gentlemen from the days of my father and still respect them for their clean pubilc life which is very scarce now-a-days.
