Dubai, May 11: They came, they sang, danced, cooked, crafted and conquered hearts. Artistic talent held a day-long victory march at the India Club recently, where the UAE Amchigele Samaj held their annual talent day for both children and adults.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from members, with a total of 150 entries for various competitions.

The morning session started with a welcome note from the Samaj president Ajith Nayak. He presented an overview of the events planned for the year, followed by an update on the 'Ekalavya Scholarship Project' that provides financial assistance to underprivileged students in India, enabling them to complete their degree education.

It was then time for the competitions to begin. Fancy dress competition for sub-junior category saw tiny tots dressed in the cutest of costumes. This was followed by junior and sub-junior dance competitions. Even children as young as 4 years performed with a panache. Kannada Sangha artistes staged a Kannada skit.

The attendees were treated to a sumptuous buffet spread during the lunch break.

The ‘greeting card-making’ competition for young children, ‘poster making’ competition for teenagers and ‘salad making’ competition for the ladies saw creativity and imagination come to the fore. Melodious notes filled the air as karaoke singing competition got underway and the ‘couples dance’ acts had the audience up on the feet clapping and cheering.

The competitions were judged by Nirmala Kamath, Suman Bhat, Padmanabha Hegde, Ramesh Avadhani, Mohan Kamath, Sadhana Mallya and Vishalakshi Shankar.

Child anchors Meghana Bhat, Akshata Prabhu, Milind Nayak, Rachana Hegde, Sadhana Bovikan, Ashwini Pai, Unnati Nayak, Aniruddha Kamath, Ajay Kamath, Vindhya Pai and Prerna Pai engaged the audience with their lively banter.

The fun factor shot up sky-high when a surprise competition for the gentlemen got underway. Fifteen unsuspecting participants were called on stage and handed a saree each, to be draped in 8 minutes. As they sportingly obliged, the audience went wild cheering for them.

The vote of thanks to the attendees, participants, compeers, volunteers, sponsors and the India Club committee and its staff was conveyed by Samaj vice-president, Sudarshan Hegde.

All in all, it was a fun event spearheaded and managed by the entire UAE Amchigele Samaj committee members.
