Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (DV)
Mangaluru, Nov 6: Pranavananda Swamiji Peetadipathi of Brahmashree Narayana Guru Shakthi Peeta, Kalburagi, is in an in-depth interview in the countdown 2023 programme with Daijiworld 24*7.
Excerpts:
Daijiworld: What is the reason for your padayatra?
Swamiji: There are several reasons for the padayatra. Billawas, Edigas and Namadari communities are facing several problems. Though we have been staging several agitations for the last two years, the government has not responded. We have nearly 14 demands and hence this padayatra is being done.
DW: Is it because elections are nearing that Pranavanada Swamiji is holding a padayatra?
Swamiji: I am holding padayatras from the last two years. From Chincholi to Kalburgi, I had done a padayatra. Then, the MLAs and ministers came to me, assured me that the demands will be fulfilled. The government is providing facilities for upper castes. Billawa and Idiga community has over 70 lacs of population in the state. Government has announced Development Corporation for 15 other communities. But why is the government not announcing a development corporation for our community?
We have demanded a corporation in the name of Brahmashree Narayanaguru and to allocate Rs 500 crore towards the development of the community. Attempts are being made by the government to take over the administration of Sigandur Temple. We are in the 2A category. Different communities are making attempts to get into this category.
DW:There are allegations that the prominent Billawa association of coastal Karnataka is not supporting the padayatra?
Swamiji: I have met all leaders of the community seeking their support. My intention is clear that this padayatra is neither meant to be a political foray for me nor for any competition. We have been born in this community, hence, there is a need to fight for justice.
