'Bopaiah will Continue as Speaker': Yeddyurappa

Bangalore, May 14 (Express Buzz): Dismissing the JD(S)'s demand for change of Assembly Speaker following the Apex Court quashing the disqualification order, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said KG Bopaiah would continue as the presiding officer of the lower house.

"There is no question of changing," Yeddyurappa told presspersons at his residence on Friday. He spoke to the media after the Supreme Court gave its verdict on the disqualification issue.

JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy had said they would demand that Speaker be changed.

Asserting that the session has been convened to discuss the budget and ensure implementation of the developmental activities, the chief minister said there was no need for anybody to read too much into this decision.

H D Deve Gowda has described as malafide intention the decision of Yeddyurappa to convene the legislature session starting Monday. "The speed and timing with which the cabinet on Friday decided to convene the session is ominous. It is to get 15 Opposition MLAs disqualified based on the house committee report headed by Appacchu on the charges of unruly behaviour," he said.

After the clear verdict by Supreme Court and indictment of the speaker in the matter, Mr. Bopaiah has lost all the credibility. I do not recollect if any other Speaker from Karnataka has gone so low in discharging his duties.

If BJP has any respect for the constitution it should ask the speaker to resign immediately and replace him with Mr. Yogeesh Bhat who is much more balanced man than Mr. Bopaiah.
