Mangaluru: CDC to release grants for development of 36 churches in DK district

Mangaluru, Nov 24: J Kennedy Shanthkumar, chairman of Karnataka Christian Development Council (CDC) said CDC has decided to release a grant for the development and renovation of 36 churches in Dakshina district.

"We are touring various districts to create awareness about the BJP government's various welfare schemes for the community," he said.

Addressing media persons at the Atal Seva Kendra here on Thursday, November 24, he said, "We have already visited 20 districts promoting programmes for the welfare of the community by the BJP-led government. Today we are here in Mangaluru." 

"The BJP government released the highest grants-in-aid for the welfare of the Christian community. After B S Yediyurappa came to power he formed the Christian Development Council for the welfare of the community," he added.

He stated that the government has released Rs 50 crore towards the development works of the Christian community. Chief Minister Bommai has also assured to release an additional Rs 50 crore in the interim budget.

The government was providing an overseas scholarship of up to Rs 20 lacs for two years, but it was stopped due to the pandemic. The government has resumed the overseas scholarship programme, he said.

"We had demanded upgradation of the council to the status of a corporation or a board. When Yediyurappa's government was in power, 60% of upgradation work had been completed on that front but then as the government changed it remained pending," he added.

He also added that Congress and JD(S) governments have failed to do justice in eight years of their rule.

"BJP is not into appeasement politics. But, it is doing positive secularism. The government had released Rs 1.30 crore for the development of the Christian community in the district so far," he said.

Shanthkumar said that the government has sanctioned Rs 50 lacs for the construction of a community hall in Bantwal taluk. Already a community hall has been constructed near Vamanjoor Church. He also added that Yediyurappa had released funds to renovate several historical churches.

    Christians considered as minorities only during elections in India. When it comes to reservations they have other minorities to serve. Even the office bearers of minority boards are from the groups, who are higher in percentage. For Central Govt. jobs Christians are considered as general category. Granting funds that too with "cut" wouldn't work.

    the govt which is utterly against Christians and Muslims is trying to play dirty game as the election is nearing. we all know very well your motive behind the release of these grants. First of all your own people will gobble 40 percent from it. secondly educated Christians are not dumb not to know your ulterior motives.

    Christians donot need your money. Save it for your brothers and sisters for future use for shelter or food. Only respect Christians and stop bothering our brothers and sisters . That’s the best help you can do for Christians

    Cant believe.They are releasing grants to improve churches ?Thank you for it.Churches have also done great to the soceity too.Now we are getting grants?But there is a sentence makes me angry.Congress and JDP?done nothing .why this sentence inbetween ?When you want to do anything do it without mentioning others name.First of all I wish to tell you lift up govt .schools more than churches.They will survive.Govt schools are on the fall .why dont you give attention to them?Look at them in which ste they are .Second is it because of election want to draw attention.?

    One of the most sane comments Which I have read in these days Rita. Different sects i our society ask for grants from the government. The governments should set the priorities right. When schools and hospitals are in dire need of improvement, grants for mutts churches and mosques would be most stupid thing any one can think of!!!

    We have seen lot of promises by this very BJP, but nothing fulfilled. This is just before the elections as usual. This is all absolute lie by the BJP. Where were they all this time? Last resort to fool the Christians of Karnataka.

    This announcement would have been meaningful if the grant money had already been given to the churches. 36 churches of all denominations of Christians is drop in the ocean. Again a promise contradictory to allegation of conversions and foreign aid on missionaries. Why ban the foreign donations if you are doing the same to Christians???.?.

    I think the Christian community is not overly enthused about this "generosity" of this government towards the Christian community. They very well know all this "dramabazi" is because of the forthcoming elections in the state. First of all, this government is not doing them a favour by giving back a small fraction of the tax money of the Christian community. The whole operation is aimed at projecting a more tolerant image of the BJP outfit. At the press meet or any other meeting of the Commission the BJP shawl is worn very prominently by everyone on the dais. First change your attitude towards the minorities. You don't give us representation in any of the governmental bodies, you change every Christian name of roads and places etc etc. And now you want us to believe that you are interested in our welfare? A tree is recognized by the fruit it bears.
