Mangaluru: Auto rickshaw fare – Rate per additional km revised to Rs 20

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Nov 25: District regional transport authority revised the fare of auto rickshaws in the district. The new rates will be effective from December 1.

Minimum fare for 1.5 km is fixed at Rs 35 (maximum three passengers). After 1.5 km, Rs 20 is fixed for every additional kilometre. Waiting charges will be free for the first 15 minutes. The next 15 minutes will be charged at Rs five.

One person should accompany the luggage. Up to 20 kg of luggage will be free. For every additional 10 kg, Rs five needs to be paid. From 10 pm to 5 am, 1.5 times over the normal rates will be charged.

The new tariff will be effective from December 1. All auto rickshaw drivers and owners should get the revised rates fixed on their meter by December 1 and take the seal from the RTO. Instructions are given to get the revised rate of meter confirmed from the weight and measures department.

The district regional transport authority had revised the fare of auto rickshaw on November 15. However, the auto rickshaw drivers’ cum owners’ association did not agree with the additional kilometre rate of Rs 17. Hence, the rate per additional kilometre was revised to Rs 20.

Difficult times for the senior citizens and the unwell who cannot afford to travel by the sloppy public transportation! Such sudden increase in auto fares and milk prices will hammer the last mail in the coffin of the common man!! Administration is only focused on appeasing vote banks, least bothered about the travails of the common man! Incidentally, all autos run on gas and many new EV autos introduced! In that context, such an increase in auto fares is not justified under any circumstances!!

Keep the auto rickshaw drivers happy. Elections are nearing and these auto rickshaw drivers are direct canvassing to the ruling party. One who interacts with these auto rickshaw drivers, will understand their mind set. Most of the auto rickshaw drivers are andh bakts.
