Mangaluru: Husband kills wife in drunken stupor

Mangaluru, Nov 28: A man, resident of Tenka Ekkaru village killed his wife in drunken stupor on November 27.

According to the details, accused Durgesh picked up a quarrel with his wife Saritha in an inebriated state late evening on Sunday November 27. When the heated arguments heightened between Durgesh and his wife, he allegedly took a wooden log and hit his wife and killed her.

Rahul, son of the couple, ran from the spot out of fear and went to his grandmother’s house. On Monday November 28 morning, accused Durgesh called his elder brother Madhu and said that Saritha is dead. When Madhu went to the spot and saw Sarita, wife of Durgesh was lying dead.

A case in this connection is registered in Bajpe police station.

    Alcohol is forbidden in Islam because it is considered an intoxicant, which technically means poison. The Holy Quran in several verses forbids intoxicants because one is not meant to harm oneself in any way or form

    Abject poverty and no hope for the future is one of the reasons for addiction, depression etc., which leads to fights and arguments; and it's very risky to argue or pickup a fight with a sozzled person!! Just by looking at the pictures one can imagine the poverty they were living in!

    How sad.This is normal in villages .People work and then drink with money they got from work in bar or local alcohol houses.Later when wife asks for money or not cooked ,start to quarrel.When one is drunk dont go to argue with them .Because they are in drunken stuper,not in a position to understand normal arguement.When next day you can simply clear the position .when alcohol Percent is down.This is a sickness .Very sad .killed wife now I hope he realises what his alcohol done.May her soul rest in peace.Hope someone will adapt this boy so long he grown up.Heartfelt sympathy to him.Should grow up without mother.

    sri-elder karakala ,are you speaking in drunken stuper or was just a joke?Alcohol was not there before ?It was there before too.People used to brew from cashew fruits at home successfully .When police used to come would just empty and run.Even with sugercane was also used .People used to drink Thodi full pot.Ancestors were drinking country made.What foreigners brought was Whisky or other alcoholic drinks Rum etc.I remember my father brought good Rum and Portwein from Bombay in 40s.

    Rita & others- I am talking about India some 500 years ago. Cashews came much later. Fresh toddy- alchohol concentration 3% is not harmful. Sugarcane was not widely available then. So no alchohol available for general public.

    The first mention of alcohol appears only with the Vedas when the Rig Veda (1700 bc) talks about intoxicants like soma and prahamana. The juice of the soma plant is considered an intoxicant, delivering a euphoric high.- (sourced from the internet)-!!

    Very right Rita; before introduction of government thotte, most farming families used to brew country brew, mainly from cashew or indhacho soro and bury the glass bottles with cork cap in the ground or in the house well for future use!! In Mumbai, aunties were very famous for brewing country from spoilt fruits, mostly in the slum type areas, and selling it to make a living for the family!!?

    Alcohol is a social evil and unfortunately no one from the so called intellectuals are seriously thinking about it and opposing. Gandhiji's dream was banning alcohol but people who took votes in his name never attempted to do it. Poor remained poor because of alcohol.

    Your suggestions are great but Insurance companies are well aware of wife burning and killings to claim insurance. If you go back to 1990's you will see enough killings of this nature in Sindhi Colony of Mahim. The brilliantly crooked Sindhi's used to take hefty insurance on wife immediately on tying the knot and then kill her with accidental fire, created by the in-laws and husband within six months of their marriage to claim insurance. When Insurance companies saw the pattern, they introduce no claims in the first 2 years of insurance if suspicious death occurs including suicide. This is namma culture sir - wholesale cheating!
