    The conditions laid down for the eligibility of the scholarship is warrented by the present condition of the community since the recepients of the the scholarships should have some duty to the community since it has derived nourishment from the community.There is a tendency to avail of the help and after completing the studies even after reaching a good position in life keep away from the fellow brotheren who expects some help for the uplift of the next generation and continue the bond.It is therefore wise and essential to lay a clause to serve the community also in future.

    Quite puzzled to see the conditional grant of the stated amount of scholarship.

    If it is a scholarship, why is there a condition that the recipient should repay by sponsoring two candidates after the employment? It looks like a loan amt with 2X interest, and with no notion on what is going to be the so called scholarship total amt of two individuals later on. It is a pitfall.

    Biggest drawback is 20 days of community service every year, thus bonding a Konkani community guy for 1/13th of his life time henceforth.

    I would rather recommend individuals to contact Banks to get the loan at a subsidized amt, where the contract ends upon payment, with no clauses.

    The web site of Konkani does not show the Agreement form, with penalty clause, agreement, arbitration, jurisdiction & governing law, sponsorship amt down the timeline, termination clauses etc. I apreciate clarification in this regard.

    Thanks,

    @Melwyn S.J.:
    World Konkani Centre has two way approach towards its cause with Community Oriented Projects and Language & Culture Oriented Projects. Under Language and Culture it has several initiatives like Fellowship Programmes for Research etc. It promotes Konkani Teaching in Schools by appointing fulltime D.Ed. Qualified Teachers and gives handsome incentives to those students who take up Konkani as third language officially under these teachers. To make available Qualified Konkani Teachers in the system it has initiated programme for development of Konkani Methodology of Teaching in B.Ed. Course. There are many more.

    Scholarship is one of its several initiatives under Community Oriented Projects. World Konkani Centre believes Economic Development of a community and it’s Cultural Development should go hand in hand.
