Brahmavar: Pedestrian hit by bus on highway, dies on spot

Brahmavar, Nov 30: A pedestrian died on the spot after a private express bus hit him while crossing the road.

This incident happened in Brahmavar near the Dharmavaram auditorium.

The deceased pedestrian has been identified as Indu Shekar.

He was crossing the national highway when a express bus coming from Kundapura towards Udupi hit him and Indu Shekar died on the spot. His body was torn into pieces due to the impact of the accident.

Members of the public complained that the road was poorly lit with no proper streetlight which resulted in the accident.

    Crossing highways on foot is dangerous and not advisable. For the same reason, rampant commercial activity, allowing new commercial buildings on the side of highways with approach road directly into highways should not be allowed.

    Sad news. From Mabukala bridge to Heroor bridge, about five kilometers of highway cover Brahmavar town, and along this highway-Route 66 (NH17) crossing the highway is difficult for pedestrians. Therefore speed limit of 25 kilometers per hour must be imposed within the town limit. Additionally, a few traffic speed breakers need to be created on the highway to control the fast of moving traffic. These actions may ensure the safety of pedestrians.

    "Jay Walking" is a serious problem on Bhatkehoove to Mangaluru NH, people suddenly appear from behind bushes on divider and cross roads as if they are walking in a park failing to gauge speed of oncomming vehicles. There are laws against jaywalking in several countries.
