Mangaluru: Arrest of innocent – Court fines women police officers Rs five lac

Mangaluru, Dec 2: The second additional FTSC POCSO court ordered two women police officers to pay fine of Rs five lac for arresting a wrong person and keeping him in judicial custody for one year.

Judge ordered sub inspector Rosamma PP and inspector Revati of women police station of the city to pay Rs five lac compensation to Naveen Sequeira. In addition, the judge also ordered the chief secretary of state home department to take legal action against the erring women police officers.

A man by the name Naveen was accused in a POCSO case under the limits of Mangaluru rural police station. SI Rosamma slapped POCSO case on Naveen Sequeira and handed him over to Revathi, police inspector for interrogation. Naveen Sequeira was arrested during investigation. The victim had mentioned the name as only Naveen in the statement she gave before the judge as well as in the complaint. However, the police filed charge sheet against Naveen Sequeira.

Rajesh Kumar Amtadi and Girish Shetty, lawyers for the accused presented their argument in the court. Judge K U Radhakrishna, who conducted the inquiry acquitted Naveen Sequeira saying that he is innocent. Hence, the judge slapped fine of Rs five lac on the erring police officers.

    The fines are usually paid from the State coffers (our money !!!) , one should insist that it should be paid from the personal accounts of those responsible. There are several judgements most famous is JT 1993(3)-SC-33. Otherwise such things will not stop.

    If the girl said name is Naveen. Why the court not presented Naveen sequeira in front of that girl to collect proof if that same person. How this police blindly arrest any one based on names?.

    In india 99% of terror charges against muslims turns framed and accused get acquit after spending years long in jail but the perpetrator agencies get scot free... This case found to be very rare due to the wealthy accused who appointed strong legal team he afford to defend him

    Not only fines but also remove them from job and stop all the benefits from the govt including retirement fund also so that others police office learn lesson form it .

    Very good development....Congratulations Naveen. Now arrest the minor and inquire her who performed atrocities on her? If minor is false, atrest the people who had given wrong complaint and slap fine of 10 lacs on them.....Henceforth people should stop giving false complaints.....

    The affected person must approach HC and even SC if the need be so that he can put these biased erring Police behind bars for life. No Khaki should dare to make these mistakes. Already they enjoy too much immunity and they misuse their power for corruption and illegal activities. Mangaluru CAA/NRC murders by Police, investigation report done by Bomma's Police still not out yet. How you can expect justice from Khaki and its biased bosses ?

    One year judicial custody, unnecessary mental torture, legal battle to prove innocence, just costs corrupt people 5 lakhs. Innocent can even die in the jail. 2 lakhs compensation. Cheap justice or cruel injustice?
