Mangaluru, Dec 2: The second additional FTSC POCSO court ordered two women police officers to pay fine of Rs five lac for arresting a wrong person and keeping him in judicial custody for one year.
Judge ordered sub inspector Rosamma PP and inspector Revati of women police station of the city to pay Rs five lac compensation to Naveen Sequeira. In addition, the judge also ordered the chief secretary of state home department to take legal action against the erring women police officers.
A man by the name Naveen was accused in a POCSO case under the limits of Mangaluru rural police station. SI Rosamma slapped POCSO case on Naveen Sequeira and handed him over to Revathi, police inspector for interrogation. Naveen Sequeira was arrested during investigation. The victim had mentioned the name as only Naveen in the statement she gave before the judge as well as in the complaint. However, the police filed charge sheet against Naveen Sequeira.
Rajesh Kumar Amtadi and Girish Shetty, lawyers for the accused presented their argument in the court. Judge K U Radhakrishna, who conducted the inquiry acquitted Naveen Sequeira saying that he is innocent. Hence, the judge slapped fine of Rs five lac on the erring police officers.
