Udupi, Dec 2: The second additional district and sessions court sentenced an accused, who assaulted and outraged the modesty of a witness in murder case eight years ago, to three years imprisonment.
Dhananjay (35) is the accused who is convicted by the court. On November 27, 2013, Yogish had killed Ranjita in Kadekaru village for refusing his proposal for love. Ranjita’s relative and neighbour Ashwini was the main witness in the case who filed case with Malpe police station.
Dhananjay, who is relative of murder accused Yogish, entered the house of Ashwini on September 10, 2014 and assaulted her with his hand and tore her clothes. In addition, he abused witness Ashwini and threatened her with life if she deposed in the court. A case was registered in this connection in Malpe police station.
Justice Dinesh Hegde opined that the guilt of Dhananjay is proven and sentenced him to three years in prison and slapped a fine of Rs 20000. Public prosecutor Jayaram Shetty argued for the prosecution.
