Bangalore: ‘Permit Assembly Session or Face Massive Protest’ - Yeddy to Guv

Bangalore, May 19: After the bonhomie the two leaders exhibited at a function here on May 18, 2011, Karnataka Chief Minister (CM), B S Yedyurappa, and Governor, H R Bharadwaj, picked up threads of their tussle for one-upmanship again on Thursday, May 19,2011.

The CM has not yet received approval from the Governor for conducting the assembly session. Angry at this snub, Yeddyurappa has now served an ultimatum to the Governor, saying that he will wait for the Governor’s nod till this evening. “If I do not receive the Governor’s green signal for convening the assembly session by today evening, we will initiate a campaign to create awareness through protest programmes throughout the state by going to the people in an open jeep, and explaining to the people how the Governor has been showing scant respect to democratic norms by using undemocratic powers," he has warned.

He also heaped criticism on opposition leaders like Siddaramaiah, Parameshwar and others for not respecting the people's verdict and unfairly seeking the dismissal of government, fearing their complete rout by the people.

Before leaving for New Delhi on his pilgrimage to Vishnodevi Temple, Yeddyurappa, speaking to media persons in Bangalore, said, "I have sought for permission from the Governor to hold the assembly session twice. I met him yesterday along with my colleagues. But he is adamant, and not willing to function democratically and give permission as sought. I am sure that the BJP’s state-wide protest aimed at creating an awareness among the people, will be able to teach the Governor a fitting lesson.”

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister and JDS supremo, Deve Gowda, met national leaders of the third front at his residence in New Delhi to chalk out future plans to oust Yedyurappa.

CPM and CPI leaders, A P Bardhan, Sitaram Yechuri, and others, along with Telugu Desam chief, Chandra Babu Naidu, former union minister, Ajit Singh, JDS MP, Cheluvaraya Swamy, and a number of other leaders were present at the meeting. It is gathered that these leaders have favoured seeking of resignation from the Karnataka CM and assembly speaker, instead of keeping the assembly under suspended animation.
