Mangalore, May 22: Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa who is on a visit to the city was stopped by around 200 Congress activists here on Sunday May 22.

The Congress activists, carrying black flags and sporting black arm bands, shouted slogans and allegedly used abusive language and gheraoed the CM's vehicle, causing traffic snarls for more than half an hour.

Police teams swung into action and took local Congress leaders into custody. The protest by the Congress seemed planned as more than 200 activists participated, yet it was kept under wraps until the last moment.

Though the police managed to disperse the crowd, the CM had to take a detour to reach Nehru Maidan, where Yeddyurappa is scheduled to address a rally in the afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Yeddyurappa landed at Bajpe airport at 11.40 am where he was given a guard of honour. He also paid his respects to the departed souls in the air crash tragedy.

Rs 23 crore for Mangalore airport

He then addressed a press meet wherein he announced that the government has released Rs 15 crore for the extension of the airport runway, apart from Rs 8 crore for the overall development of the airport. He also said that the district jail will be soon shifted to the city outskirts.

On illegal mining in the state, he said that because of his decisions, more than 90 percent of illegal mining has stopped.

Lambasting the opposition, he said that the government is in possession of documents pertaining to Deve Gowda's corruption and will soon bring it before the public. He pointed out that by refusing to go with the government's decision to convene assembly session, the opposition parties have proved that they are anti-democratic.

He also took a dig at governor Bhardwaj, asking how could a governor who is an expert at Constitution and law behave in an anti-Constitutional manner. The governor has committed a serious offence and has brought bad name to his post, he said.

He expressed confidence that as his party has absolute majority, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and home minister Chidambaram would not take any unfavourable decision and would not dissolve the government.

He also mocked Janardhan Poojary saying, "He had vowed to quit if BJP were to win all three seats, where is he now and why is not commenting?"

He advised Congress to introspect as well as restrospect over all that has happened in the recent times. People are fed up and will not tolerate such opposition parties anymore, he said.

On Pejawar Swamiji's July 13 deadline regarding land denotification, he said that he was not aware of the issue and will comment only after a thorough study of the case.

Dear Mr. Nagesh Nayak Bangalore, Italian led Congress is better than bjp led communal government.
BJP is good only for higher caste & congress is for all irrespective of caste creed, colour including yourself.
Your comment is only from one eye. Open your another eye & see how many soldiers were died during Kargil war because of wheel chair government scared to cross the border & blowing big, big mouth as they call deshbhakts. I think you have stolen at least one coffin from bjp’s store room for yourself.
Is not Bopiah threw away constitution rules by disqualifying MLA’s before the house vote??? Is it correct in your point of view?
Now tell me should not Arun Jaitley be arrested for criticizing the ruling of Supreme Court? Kindly explain. All the bjp leaders are not adhering to the constitution.
If you are a learned man just find out what is the petrol prices in the international market now.
The necessary item like milk prices were increased twice by Mr. Yeddyurappa & engineering fees increase, Alcohol prices are increased exorbitantly, Mangalore corporation water taxes, property taxes, electricity taxes were all increased by bjp led government.
DID NOT THE NDA INCREASED PETROL & GAS PRICES WHILE THEY WERE IN RULE.
You should thank JDS leaders becoz of them only the bjp came to power. Because of congress only Mr. Yeddyurappa is not behind the bars for bribe, misrule & murder of his own wife.
Mr. Nagesh Nayak come out from the well do not stay in the well always.

    Dear Mr. Ajith Kamath Mangalore,
I quote your comment: Congressmen without power are like fish out of water. Their desperation says it all Unquote.
It is similar to NDA in the center. After being in power for 5 years Mr. Advani/all bjp leaders tried their best to topple U.P.A., through hindutva and through opposing civilian nuclear at the floor of the parliament house and even now trying to destabilize thorough dividing the coalition. Bjp/Fish out of Water.

Secondly, Mr. Yeddyurappa tasted power with JDS and after general assembly elections bjp didn’t get clear majority and indulged in corrupting M.L.A’s through operation Kamala to secure power (fish to be in the water). Now Mr. Yeddyurappa cannot breathe without power. He need water to be in the power.
What and what he has done to be in power. Church attacks, temple attacks, mosque attacks, corrupting people and M.L.A’s through operation kamala (corrupting mla’s) he even didn’t spare his own wife. Mr. Yeddyurapp’s wife’s body was found in his own water tank. Disqualifying MLA’S before the floor test.
Fish need water Right?? Mr. Ajith Kamath, Mangalore.???

His body guards always sport black showing they are against his whites.
The mikes placed infront of him have all black handles, his shoes are black, some walk along with black pants & police sport black belts.
It shows there is shadow beneath everything & black is beautiful most of the times. White doesn't depict purity always.

congies & JDS have exhausted all crooked options ..this is the desperateness and helplessness they are exhibiting... the real mannerless face of congress shows.. they have never behaved well as an opposition party ..even during kargil insurgency, instead of supporting government during the war, they were just playing politics. Congress has long history of Corruption & Criminals..kabhi nahee sudhrenge ?? mostly our muslim / christian brothers are just supporting congies bcos of its minority appeasement policy where as BJP (although restricted to speeches) atleast talks about hindutva which is so unbearable to them. CM praying at the temples pinches them so much. Against all odds BSY marches ahead.

Good work by congress workers. Mr. Yeddyurappa should have been chased from Nehru Maidan, Mangalore for which he had been accused of murder of his own wife and after being Karnataka Chief Minister, he and Mr. Bopaiah have murdered the constitution by disqualifying MLA’S before the voting which shows murdering of democracy on the floor of the assembly.
