Mangalore: Bus Skids on NH 48 Killing One, Injuring Seven

Mangalore, May 23: In an unfortunate incident occurred on the National Highway 48 near Adyarkatte here on Monday May 23 at around 4 pm, one person identified as Manjayya Shetty (50) was killed when hit by a speeding private bus. The bus then turned turtle injuring as many as seven persons including three children.
Manjayya Shetty, a resident of Arekala Pavoor was an agriculturist by profession and well-known in the locality. He had just alighted from a bus and was crossing the road without noticing the fast approaching bus. The bus skidded when the driver applied the breaks and went on to hit the divider, eventually overturning.
It is learnt that the bus was plying from Mangalore to Puttur. The passengers on board were returning to Puttur after attending a baby shower in the city.
A woman, whose identity is not yet known, lost her arm in the incident. She has been admitted to the hospital. In all, seven passengers injured in the accident have been admitted to a hospital in Kankanady.
Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty who was on the way, stopped his vehicle and helped in shifting the injured to the hospital with the help of local people gathered. Kankanady rural police rushed to the spot.
