Beltangady, Dec 18: A lone tusker attacked the farm of Bhandaje Keenyadka Shashidhara Paranjape of Kadirudyavara village and destroyed arecanut, coconut and banana crops.
The inmates of the house who came to know of the tusker attack made sounds to scare the pachyderm back to the forest. This managed to prevent more damage. Later the tusker went to a nearby farm and then moved to Valambra via the pond.
An operation is on to send the wild elephant back to the forest since a week in the Chibidre and Thotattadi areas.
The team conducting the operation had seen a lone tusker. The team chased it and it ran towards the national highway and Mritunjaya river. However, till the evening of Saturday, the tusker was not sighted by the operation team. There is a possibility that there is a herd of elephants at Malla part of Malavanthige, say fourest sources.
