Karkala, Dec 18: The death case of a rubber tapping labourer that was registered in the police station here two months ago, has gotten a twist with the wife of the deceased suspecting a foul play. Police have filed a case against three people as per the complaint given by the wife of the deceased.

K Gopinathan Nair of Kerala origin used to work in a rubber plantation run on lease by R Vivekananda Shenoy and Dileep. He used to reside in the plantation house itself. His burnt body was found two months ago. A case of suicide was registered in the police station.

Now, Sudha, wife of deceased Nair has accused R Vivekananda Shenoy and Dileep of torturing her husband and forcing him to kill self.

In her complaint, Sudha said, “The accused duo did not pay the salary on time to my husband. They did not provide him leave also when needed. They used to threaten him with life if the deceased spoke of quitting the job. Whenever I called my husband, he used to say that he would give up the job."

“My husband once got really scared by the brutal approach of Vivekananda Shenoy and Dileep and he sent voice messages on mobile phone and also three numbers and asked me to save them and give the numbers to police in case he did not call me till evening.

On October 19, accused Dileep called me and said that my husband is missing and asked me to send his aadhar card in order to file a missing complaint with police. Later he called me in the evening and said that my husband had committed suicide.

“When my son came and saw, the body of my husband was found in half burnt condition in the estate. My husband did not have the mindset to pour petrol and kill himself in such a brutal manner. Accused have taken help from a person who has criminal background and have abetted my husband to commit suicide.”

Karkala city police are investigating further.

Delaying the payment as well as not giving the pay is one of the problems encountered by many employees today. Often, we hear, in some states, delay in payment of salaries to policemen, teachers, specially part time ones and anganwadi workers. Even in a PSU, the salary 3400 employees, not paid for 13 months. Khoon pasina leta hai, Paisa dena rota hai.
