Honour killing: Man murders son-in-law over inter-caste marriage in Bagalkot

Bagalkot, Dec 19 (IANS): In an apparent case of honour killing, a man killed his son-in-law in this district of the state, police said on Monday.

A manhunt has been launched for the accused Tammna Gouda and his two associates.

The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Bhujabala Karjagi from Takkoda village near Jamkhandi town in the district.

While Bhujabala belonged to the Jain community, Bhagyashree was a Kshatriya. The two had eloped from their homes a year ago and got married, police said.

After spending some time outside, the couple had returned to their native village and lived away from their parents.

Tammana Gouda nursed a deep grudge against his daughter and son-in-law and decided to kill him.

On December 17, when Bhujabala was passing through the Hanuman temple, the accused threw chilli powder into his eyes and attacked him with a machete.

A critically injured Bhujabala succumbed to his injuries. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused was aided by two other persons.

Savalagi police have registered a case in this regard and taken up further investigation.

When you install a candidate in a constituency where majority of electorate belong to a certain community, we are promoting secularism. And when this guy is inspired by caste aspirations, it is his problem. And here we have a 21st century honor killing in Independent India that is secular.

Normally Hindus don’t do such killings but this is sad to see we are following middle eastern ways. Let people chose whom they like married why unnecessarily everyone put thier nose in personal life of loving couples.. ideology and hatred destroys families, nations. India had blessed with everything but recently ideological systems may drawbacks for its future generations

It's not right for the dispensing administration or any group of people to check on the lives of any group of people or individual individuals! People enter into marriages or relationship on their own and the law recognises their right of the people to do so! All these self induced regulations on other peoples private lives is directly infringing on their privacy overriding the constitutional rights of freedom granted by the constitution!!

And these same people make fun of people of other religion for honour killing on "inter -religious" marriages; here "inter- caste" marriages are also resulting in SAR THAN SE JUDA. Karthe raho khud ka gungaan. Baaki sab aise hi badnaam.

We are going back to stone age, Khap Panchayat Raj! For every woman who is murdered by a partner from another community there are 1000s of others who are killed by their partners from the same religion! There is no stats to suggest that women in interfaith marriages are in greater danger of any kind than others !!

Garland him, take him on procession and make him CM of Gujarat. We already have such examples. This is a good example of "Hindu Khatre me he" from themselves than from innocent minorities. Where are the BD, VHP, RSS..... abcd of Hindu Taliban?

Horrific incident. Lack of basic human sense, education and upbringing only can lead to such mindless acts. Some are trying to milk political and religious mileage here too. They are even more dangerous for they comment without even knowing. Some who think that those who dont believe in their religion are KAAFIRS and not fit to live and those who believe in DKS ' Cookeraa ' mistake are commenting like authorities. What a Farce! Look within first and you will have less to complain.

Two high-cast officials pressed disagree button to your comment. It looks like conversion within Hinduism is not allowed. Some Baramanna's can clarify this.
