Mangaluru: Trio produce fake documents, cheat cooperative society of Rs 50 lac

Mangaluru, Dec 20: A case is registered in CEN police station of the city based on the complaint filed by Chandrika D Rao, secretary of Mangaluru Sauharda cooperative limited Jeppu, accusing three people of providing fake documents and availing loan of Rs 50 lac.

The accused mentioned in the case are Shilpa Gajanana Poonja, Dr Nischiketh Poonja and Dr Nikita Poonja.

In 2017, Shilpa Gajanana Poonja applied for Rs 50 lac loan and produced deposit bonds of a bank and LIC bond. Dr Nischiketh Poonja provided deposit bond of a bank and LIC bond for Rs 40 lac loan. The loan was sanctioned for both based on the documents they provided.

When the accused did not repay the loan amount, the documents were produced in the respective bank and it came to light that the deposit bonds produced were fake and the LIC bonds were already encashed.

Dr Nikita Poonja, daughter of Shilpa Gajanana Poonja is the guarantor for the loan and has cooperated in the fraud according to the complaint filed by the secretary of the cooperative society.

    They say every human is a con man... And also thief is a king until caught... These type of events have been going on from time immemorial... They will continue to fill the media pages... Due diligence and KYC may be a mere formality in co op set up... They are called co operative because there is these scams are run in full cooperation... Insider job gone wrong...

    All are hand in gloves!! Before issuing such a huge loan, weren't the documents checked by their vigilance department? How did they manage to encash the bonds when they were mortgaged? If such cheating is possible then ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE; till now such type of cheating used to happen only in rogue states!!

    Usually a lien is attached -- EC -- etc. --Originals kept -- verification etc. -- The whole episode suggests involvement of Socie officials -- Due diligence not done -- hand in glove-- Everyone knows process involved to get even a small loan let alone 50 lakhs --
