Mangaluru, Dec 22: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has clarified that update on 10 year old Aadhaar cards is not compulsory but optional.
In a media release, UIDAI said, “During the past decade, Aadhaar number has emerged as a proof of identity of residents in India. Aadhaar number is being used for availing several government schemes and services.
“Residents who had got their Aadhaar issued 10 years ago, and have never updated after that in these years, such Aadhaar number holders are encouraged to get their documents updated.
“Some news reports have incorrectly reported on Thursday that it has been made mandatory. It is informed to ignore these reports and social media posts.
“The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has previously issued a press release underlining that it is urging and encouraging residents to keep their documents updated. The recently issued gazette notification also clearly mentions that residents ‘may’ do so on completion of every 10 years.
“Keeping the documents in Aadhaar updated helps in ease of living, better service delivery, and enables accurate authentication. UIDAI has always encouraged residents to keep their documents updated, and the gazette notification is another step in that direction,” stated the press release.

Mangaluru, Dec 22: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has instructed Aadhaar card holders, who have got the card done 10 years ago, to get the same renewed.
The information in the Aadhaar card like address and other important details have to be updated with the present records. All old Aadhaar card holders should ensure that the details on the card are the latest ones.
Aadhaar card is playing a vital role in securing government facilities for the past 10 years. Due to the linking of Aadhaar card with bank account, the amount is transferred directly to the account of beneficiaries.
If anyone, who has got the Aadhaar card done 10 years ago and subsequently renewed it with updated details, then there is no need for such people to renew the card once again. Only those people who have not done any changes or update on their Aadhaar card for the past 10 years, need to visit the nearby Aadhaar registration centres. They have to pay specified renewal fee also as per the publication of the deputy commissioner.
