Mangaluru: Christmas, New Year celebration – Tourists throng city

Mangaluru, Dec 25: The tourists have entered the city in large numbers in the wake of Christmas and New year celebrations. The number of visitors arriving for the international cultural Jamboori that is being held at Moodbidri has also increased.

All the hotels, resorts and homestays are fully booked till January 2. In the district of Dakshina Kannada, there are 80 registered home stays, out of which most are in Mangaluru itself.

More than 100 hotels have membership of the association. They are also fully booked. The office bearers of the hotel association say that the number of tourists increases naturally in the city as it has all the four modes of transport.

The rates of hotel rooms have gone sky high. The rent of normal rooms has shot up by Rs 2,500 to 5,000. The private tourist buses have also increased their fare by two times. KSRTC and private buses will be introducing additional bus services. Some had to cancel their tour as the rooms are not available.

Meanwhile, KSRTC has organized Kerala and Madikeri tour packages till December 31.

Many from other districts of Karnataka and also all over the country arrive at coastal districts to visit the religious and tourist attractions and to taste the delicious fresh seafood. During the past two years it was not possible due to Covid restrictions. However, this year all the tourists are in high spirits. The lodges run by temples are also completely booked. The lodges at Dharmasthala, Kukke Subramanya are completely booked. Still the demand has not been reducing.
