Mangaluru/Udupi: District administrations announce alerts to fight Covid-19

Mangaluru/Udupi, Dec 25: The district administrations of the coastal districts have announced an alert to the citizens in view of the rising cases of Covid-19 infection in China. Also, The Centre has, in a directive, alerted all states to take precautionary measures and exercise caution due to the rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the neighbouring country.

In Udupi district, no cases of Covid-19 were reported over the last one month. During the same period in Dakshina Kannada district, Covid-19 cases were reported in single digit numbers on a daily basis. Despite the low caseload, the district administration bodies have taken steps to increase testing and are awaiting a new set of protocols from the Centre to tackle the disease.

Presently in Udupi district, testing for Covid-19 is being carried out for 50 to 100 persons per day while in Dakshina Kannada 150 to 200 persons are being tested daily to detect the disease. The district administration of both the districts have planned to step up testing when patients complain of fever, cold and other ailments. Vigil has been stepped up on those who have been on international travel and have returned to India. Doctors said those suffering from cold and fever have been mandatorily told to get themselves tested for Covid-19 infection while random testing is also being ramped up for the others.

The district administration bodies of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are awaiting the announcement of revised protocols, guidelines and restrictions to be followed in view of the situation that is emerging out of China. The district administration plans to step up administration of the booster dose of the anti-Covid vaccination. Those who are due for a precaution dose of the vaccine are being encouraged to register themselves and once 20 names are registered they would be called and informed about the date of administering the vaccine.
Currently, only Covaxin is available to be administered. In Dakshina Kannada there are 41,920 doses available while in Udupi 10,000 doses of Covaxin are available.

In Dakshina Kannada 18,85,935 took the first dose of vaccination and 100% target was achieved. 18,93,641 of them were administered the second dose achieving 100% of the target. However, only 2,26,373 have got the precaution dose administered out of 14,17,729 achieving about 15.97% of the target.

In Udupi, 10,90,865 took the first dose of vaccination and 100% of the target was achieved. 10,86,733 of them were administered the second dose achieving 100% of the target. However, only 3,00,685 have got the precaution dose administered, achieving about 30% of the target.

Meanwhile, union minister of state for agriculture and farmers' welfare Shobha Karandlaje said there is no Covid-19 worry in India and no cause for worry although thousands of deaths are being reported in other countries including China.
