Sameer, I don't buy gold a lot. But to my knowledge, for every bill of sale, there is a tally with the sales tax and GST which would have to be submitted. I would imagine these would be missing for the smuggled gold and if supply exceeds bills, then IT raid is guaranteed.

On the other side, This 1 Cr is nothing when compared to 20,000 Cr Drugs seized at Modi friend and financier Adani's sea port in Gujrat some time back. Strangely still no one is caught for reasons known to all !!! Hum Kare to Chamatkaar. Tum Kare to Balaatkaar.

So, if a drug peddler is catched in Indira Gandhi international airport in Delhi, is Indira Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are responsible for it? Drugs came to Adani owned Mundra port fro Afghanistan and two people got arrested from Hyderabad in that case. Government confiscated drugs worth 30,000 crores too. Adani just maintains that port. How he is responsible fr it!? Read proper news. Not just your Congress WhatsApp groups forwards.

Next time beware while buying gold might be from the innerwear of someone from Kerala. Now we know why people from Kasargod buying and spending lavishly in Mangalore.

Smugglers always innovate to carry out their trade. Young girls aren't suspected to carry out these acts & they have caught one, these people will innovate another route soon. The main reason for smuggling is rate difference in our country & Dubai, if they are addressed then nobody will indulge in smuggling.

People acting so strange here like gold smuggling only haplening on kerala...Whole india joins gold smuggling...The reason is Gold is cheap in Dubai they bring 24 carat gold and they Reduce it to 22 carat gold to sell ...A Carrier gets 20-50k for delivering...There are big shots behind this Big Jewellery players . People try to smuggle gold because they are making easy money in Transport than they can make in india.. in month. So Karnataka people need to take their head out of ass and use logic why this illegal trades are being happening..Even if they capture those gold does that still stay in govt place or bribery takes those gold away...Carrier did their job.i learned all this when my friend was used as gold carrier but he refused to do so

@ kaz, California, You are 100% right. With so high taxes, the jewellers end up doing very less profit. That's why they opt for smuggled gold. All big players are involved and every month only 5% of it is shown as 'confiscated'. 95% goes through. No rocket science.
