Kundapur, Dec 27: In an accident that occurred on the Monday night at Panakadakatte of Balkoor village in the taluk, a pillion rider was killed on the spot as the two-wheeler on which he was seated was hit by a crane in the rear.

The deceased is identified as Prashant Mogaveera (31), a resident of Hombadi near Hunasemakki. He was seated behind Dinesh Poojary and both were proceeding towards Siddapur from Kundapur. A new crane without a registration number plate hit their two-wheeler in the rear.

Both rider Dinesh and pillion Prashant fell on the road. Prashant was severely injured and died on the spot, while Dinesh escaped with minor injuries. He was admitted to a private hospital.

It is said that the driver of the crane stopped the vehicle, but escaped from the spot. A case in this connection is registered in Kundapur police station.
