Dubai, May 26: Over 500 cricketing enthusiasts gathered at Insportz indoor cricket facility to witness the first edition of KYPL 2011 recently. Among the dignitaries gathered for the opening of the tournament were Stan Ageira of Daijiworld and Melwyn, proprietor Al Shay.
The cheering spectators were thoroughly entertained by in-field cricketing action and were also kept on their toes by the fascinating KY members including DJ Clevan Martis and MC for the day Deepak Machado.
The sponsors of the tournament were Digital World, Sapil Perfumes and Al Shay Restaurant.
Two tournaments were run simultaneously in five courts of the sporting facility Insportz based in Alquoz, Dubai.
Namanna team won a nail-biting match against Bantwal Tigers to bag the first ‘Kannadiga Trophy’ of KYPL and Oxford Marine were crowned the undisputed champions of the ‘Open to All’ tournament.

A mixed team including 10 KY female members was the highlight of the day. Flavia Martis emerged the victorious captain of the mixed team tournament.
The prize distribution ceremony was held at the end and the winners were awarded medals and trophies.
Stephen Nazareth, president of the group said that this was the first edition of KYPL, and several such programmes which knit the community together will be organised in the future. He thanked all the members and volunteers who worked relentlessly to make this tournament a success. A special thanks was extended to the sponsors including Daijiworld, Al Shay Restaurant and Digital World.
