Karnataka records Rs 1,262 crore bumper sale of liquor from Dec 23-31

Bengaluru, Jan 2: The state Excise department has got huge revenue for New Year celebration. From December 23 to 31, a whopping Rs 1262 crore worth of IMFL is sold in the state. Out of this, a record was made with the beer with 15.4 lac litre of sales.

It is said that from December 27 to 31 3.57 lac litre, 2.31 lac litre, 2.31 lac litre, 2.93 lac litre and three lac litre of liquor was sold respectively.

Pubs located at Church Street and Brigade road were filled to the brim with customers for the New Year. Pub owners sold liquor for 50% more rate than usual for the New Year’s Eve. Many people had to return as the pubs were jam packed.

Party lovers had booked pubs in advance. Special packages were given to groups in pubs to have fun. Unlimited offers were also given in certain pubs to attract customers. Separate fee was charged for single, couple and families.

The state government had given a target of Rs 29,000 crore to the excise department for the year 2022-23. Till December 29 of 2022, the revenue generated by excise was Rs 21,981 crore. According to statistics provided by the excise department, 14% more liquor was sold for the same period than last year.

From December 29 to 31, 8.24 lac boxes of IML and 6.62 lac boxes of beer was sold. This has broken the record of previous two years. On December 31 alone, Rs 200 crore worth beer and IML was sold. The Silicon City has recorded the highest sales. In the wake of New Year celebration, more than 1000 situational liquor licenses were sold (for one day only). Thousands of applications were submitted to the excise department this year.

    90% of the revenue is from responsible drinker who consume expensive brands socially and occasionally. Only 10% from drunkards. Hence health factor doesn't matter here.
