Mangaluru, Jan 3: The Mescom has given electricity tariff increase shock to its consumers at the beginning of New Year itself. It has made a proposal ready to increase the unit price by Rs 1.38 for the year 2023-24.
The Mescom has already sent the proposal to Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC). Any objections to the same can be sent to KERC or Mescom central office in the city.
According to the Mescom, for every unit, it is spending Rs 9.93. It is charging Rs 7.95 per unit to consumers at present. This means there is shortfall of Rs 1.38. So the price rise is inevitable according to Mescom.
In city areas L T-2 connection are charged at present at Rs 100 per KW. The Mescom has proposed to increase this to Rs 150. For additional KW, Rs 110 will be charged for 50 KW (present charge is Rs 100) and beyond 50 KW additional the charges will be Rs 175 (Rs 160 is current charges).
In the meantime, electricity adjustment fee is reduced by Rs 15 paisa for limited period. This is because KERC has noticed that there is overall reduction in the fuel and electricity buying expenses for the second trimester of 2022 (July to September). Earlier, it was said that Rs 37 will be refunded for every unit.
