Mangaluru, Jan 3: Police arrested two persons with Rs 500 counterfeit currency notes worth Rs 4.5 lac.
The arrested are identified as Nizamuddin (32) from BC Road and Rajeem (31) from Jeppu.
As many as five cases registered against Nizamuddin including murder, theft and murder attempt at different police station. Rajeem has a solitary case registered at Urwa police station.
Police had received a definite tip that there is movement of a gang dealing in counterfeit currency notes. On January 2 when the police were checking vehicles at Nanthoor, the two accused in two-wheeler, on seeing the cops, had tried to escape. Police chased the duo and caught them.
It later came to light that the two wheeler the accused were using was also stolen from Pandeshwar police station limits
It is said that the accused took fake currency notes from one Daniel in Bengaluru. Bengaluru city police have arrested four persons including Daniel. The counterfeit currency notes were reportedly printed in Coimbatore.
Mangaluru east police station have registered a case.
City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar announced Rs 10,000 for the police team who cracked the case.
