Mangaluru: Bharath Shetty defends 'Love Jihad' statement by MP Nalin Kateel

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Jan 4: MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty has vehemently defended the controversial 'Love Jihad' statement by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, January 4, Dr Shetty said, “The BJP state president has asked party workers to let go of the matters of road works and eradicate the atmosphere of poison in the society instead. Construction of roads is a concern of elected representatives,” said MLA Bharath Shetty justifying the statement of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.

He was referring to a recent controversial advise by Nalin Kumar to party workers to focus on 'Love Jihad' matters rather than bother about civic issues like road or drainage repairs.

"The slaughter of cows has decreased during our term. The cows will increase if Congress supports the campaign. There is no communal friction in Surathkal. Some of the incidents have occurred here like in any other area in the state. Different meanings are implied by vested interests when same things happen in Surathkal. However, one elected representative cannot control them. Community leaders should advise them,” he said.

Provocative statements of such opportunistic politicians (irrespective of the party they belong to) notwithstanding, it is left for the electorate to decide what they want - a civilised society or anarchy. History has proved - time and again - that while the former takes us forward, the latter destroys the country.

The conditions of roads and other public facilities in Dakshina Kannada are so bad, that the common man spends more time and attention on safeguarding his life. Is there any time left for love ( Jihad or not) in this country ?
