Bantwal, Jan 4: A school girl standing by the side of a road was critically injured after a motorcycle rammed into her. The accident occured at Okketthoor, Vittal on Wednesday, January 4.

The girl is Fathimath Nida, daughter of Basheer, a resident of Okkethoor in Vittal. She is a fifth standard student at Vittal Model School.

She was waiting for an auto rickshaw on the side of the road to go to school when the bike that came from Vittal collided with her and dragged her along for distance. The bystanders immediately rushed the girl to Puttur hospital. She was later shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment.

The eye witnesses allege that vehicles have been overspeeding here after the Vittal – Kalladka road was widened and asphalted.

    The national highway from Padua school to Nanthoor circle is a nightmare for pedestrians. The footpath is overrun by all vehicles and will mow any pedestrian down. Buses don't care and will drive over you. The Mangalore Traffic police are only watching people driving on the wrong side of the road at Padua school. Many accidents have taken place there, but no action by the police....only watching...

    O my God ,why these bikes are speeding like rocket ?Hope girl is not injured severe.Simply cancel the licence of Biker.No other way to stop these shooting bikers and with hold bike too.wish her fast recovery .He should pay the bills from girl too.

    Indian roads are unplanned and totally mess. There is a huge population and the roads and traffic has to be controlled accordingly! Add speed cameras close to schools, hospitals wherever required so that at least public on foot remain safe.
