PM to preside over Chief Secys meet on achieving $5 tn economy target

New Delhi, Jan 4 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over a brainstorming session with Chief Secretaries of all states beginning on Thursday over how to develop districts as engines of growth so as to achieve the target of becoming a $5 trillion economy.

According to highly-placed sources, the meeting will be held between January 5 to 7, with the Prime Minister presiding over the deliberations during January 6 and 7.

NITI Aayog CEO Parmeswaran Iyer will inaugurate the meeting on January 5 at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (Pusa) campus in the national capital.

Sources informed that the main focus of the meeting would be how to develop districts across the country into engines of growth.

Chief Secretaries could be asked to come up with ideas to develop districts as models of development to achieve the target of making India a $5 trillion economy, sources said.

The timeline for India becoming a $5 trillion economy was earlier 2024-25, which now has been revised to 2026-27, owing to disruptions caused by coronavirus pandemic.

Manufacturing opportunities are at India's door, thanks to most big countries wanting to shift base from China due to various reasons such as poor COVID management and poor finish of products, inferior quality. India needs to to max leverage and grab with open arms! Also the Govt is correctly handling the economic growth with lot of impetus on MSMEs which alone will be critical to this target. The onus also lies in big industries in India maximizing their capabilities by providing more employment opportunities to our large skill developed work force! Let India shine!

Chief Secretaries are unelected, 9-5 public servants. They get their salary, houses, cars, domestic servants/drivers/gardeners, and whatever else - whether the country is on a 5 trillion path, or down at 2 million doldrums. The whole meeting exercise is a complete waste of time, effort and money.

Wastage of time, resources and tax payers money. Only serves media for election campaigning. If by holding meetings to achieve record economic growth then Somalia, Pakistan and N. Korea would have become $ 10 Tr economy long time ago. Here in Karnataka ministers are saying Love-Jihad and other communal matters are more important than any other developmental work to make India $ 5Tr economy.
