Mangaluru, Jan 5: Dakshina Kannada is a factory of Hindutva and communalism has been growing here, said Assembly opposition leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah.

He was speaking in the Ullal and Mudipu block Congress Janajagruti meeting on U T Fareed stage near Harekala seashore.

"BJP has forgotten its promises and is trying to divide the society after getting power. The current double engine government has broken everything. Ambedkar has written in the constitution that all are equal and that everybody should receive protection while they can follow any religion. But equal rights and equal opportunities are being destroyed now," he said.

"The current chief minister belongs to 7 crore Kannadigas and not RSS. He does not visit the houses of minorities who are murdered. RSS which was not involved in the freedom struggle does not have the moral right to speak about patriotism," Siddaramaiah added.

Nalin Kumar Kateel does not speak about unemployment and corruption. They are trying to destroy areca nut farming in state. Contractor Santhosh Patil committed suicide due to 40% commission demand. Pradeep belonging to MLA Aravind Limbavali block ended his life stating that the latter is responsible for his death. Shivakumar, another contractor, wants to die for not receiving his payment. Do we need such a government, he questioned.

MLA U T Khader said that Ullal is an area where love and trust have always existed. He called upon the people to elect Congress to uphold the glory of the governance of Indira Gandhi.B K Hariprasad said, "We have mobile phones because of the revolution brought about by Rajiv Gandhi. Do not allow the district where Christians, Hindus, Muslims and Jains have lived together in harmony to be destroyed, he said.
