If supported, India's small scale industry can compete with China: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS): Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that if India's small scale industry would get support from the government they can compete with China.

Addressing a gathering in Punjab's Ludhiana during his ongoing 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' on Thursday, Rahul Gandhi said, "The Prime Minister's 'billionaire friend' cannot compete with China, India's small industries can do it by providing employment to crores of youth in the country."

Taking a jibe at Narendra Modi government, he said, "The Kauravas of the 21st century have a blindfold of greed and arrogance, they neither a vision nor a thought for progress."

The Congress MP further said that the BJP government's policies like demonetisation and 'wrong' GST have hurt Ludhiana. "Demonetisation and GST were not policies, but weapons to destroy small-scale industries."

"The focus of the Central government is only on two-three families. No one is paying attention to the small scale industry. Big houses cannot provide employment to the country, but small scale industries can. Centre is not doing anything for small scale industry. If small scale industry gets help then we can compete with China," Rahul Gandhi asserted.

He accused the BJP of "spreading fear, hatred and violence in the country". "Brother is being pitted against brother, one religion against the other, one caste against the other," he added.

The Congress leader, during his Yatra in Punjab on Thursday, met five groups - professional wrestlers, members of round-table NGOs working in the field of education, RTI activists, members of 'Ek Zaria' NGO which is working in the medical science field, and intellectuals on the Himalayan issues.

China finances its industries based on principles that we in India or West do not understand or refuse to acknowledge. When China promotes its industry, it supports to monopolize and drive away competitors by initially financing the customers, primarily abroad by dumping cheap products until local industries there go out of business. Then they build on that monopoly to derive true value and profit. If RaGa is proposing that, he did not have to wait this long for his wisdom tooth to come out. He could have whispered to the ears of his and his Mama's favorite PM who was in office for 8 years. Luckily for China's small scale by operating this way, they had the entire world as their market. What is RaGa's take on the market for the output from the small scale industry he plans to prop-up the China way.

Very true. The post-independent India planning through a 5-year plan ensured a balanced growth of the country guaranteeing welfare measures for the poor and encouraging small and cottage industries for sustainable development. Over the years the Government of the day elevated the categorisation of sectors to the level of MSME. Thus it was proved that the employment growth rate was high and decisions were taken holistically with the balanced growth of the Private & Public sectors. The present trend of the Government of India is lopsided favouring large-scale industries which cannot provide high employment as it is technology driven. Concentrating economic power in the hands of a few individuals will end up in the "Tail wagging the Dog". The Government will be brought to its knees by their economic power and manipulative skills in policy-making as is visible in how our legislators shift loyalty for money or position jumping from one party in which they are elected to another. India as a Nation will be betrayed.
