New Delhi: Kanara Cultural Association celebrates Christmas Tree, New Year 2023

New Delhi, Jan 14: Kanara Cultural Association (KCA) celebrated Christmas and New year with an unique style & traditions of coastal Karnataka on the January 8, at DCC hall Gol Dak Khana.

Bishop Deepak Valerian Tauro was the chief guest for the glittering function and FrVincent D’Souza, vicar general of Archdiocese Delhi was the guest of honour.

In spite of the chilling winter, maximum KCA members from Delhi-NCR including priests, kids, and elderly actively participated in the programme.

Hot coffee and tea with hot snacks kept everyone warm. Santa along with kids escorted the chief guest and the executive members to the stage. The bishop placed baby Jesus at the small and colorful crib prepared by Sachin Vas, KCA treasurer. Then followed lighting of the lamp by dignitaries and KCA elders. Jesuit Deacons from Vidyajyoti seminary sang foot tapping & soul touching carol songs in Hindi, English, Kannada, Konkani and Tulu where members and Santa danced with great enthusiasm

Homemade Christmas cake and wine by Sachin and Risha was served to all. The delicious and traditional Kuswar prepared by Anil, Godfrey Frank and Merlin was loved by everyone.

Emcee for the evening Melwyn Lobo, KCA VP continued the programme along with Jesuit brothers with various games and songs ensuring that each member joined to make the evening a memorable event, KCA had organized lucky hamper draws where the winners were announced.

In his message to the gathering, chief guest Bishop Deepak Tauro recalled his early days in Bihar and congratulated KCA for keeping the traditions alive. He encouraged the elders to keep alive the traditions and pass on to the young generations which ultimately must unite everyone for a common good. Fr Vincent D'Souza too heaped praise on all executive & area representatives for organizing and ensuring unique traditional coastal Christmas celebrations are filled with participation.

KCA president, Pius Monteiro in his thanking note appreciated the gathering and expressed his gratitude to Bishop Deepak, vicar general, deacons, spiritual director Fr Anthony Dsouza, Fr Sunil assistant parish priest of Cathedral, sponsors, area representatives , winners of the various games, online competitors of crib & carol singing conducted by Jenniffer Lobo & Merlyn Frank, Maurice De Almeida for preparing traditional manglorean dishes for the dinner & for the beautiful hall which was decked up with Christmas themes by Sachin, Louis Rodrigues KCA VP, Felix Fernandes, Lancy Furtado & Raymond Arun Veigas.

Programme ended with nonstop Baila dance and greetings to all KCA families for a bright and peaceful 2023.
