Mangaluru: Have brought Rs 4,750 crore funds in my tenure - MLA Vedavyas Kamath at ‘Meet the Press'

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jan 17: City south MLA Vedavyas Kamath said, “Rs 4750 crore funds have been brought until now for development work in Mangaluru in my tenure with the support of central and state government.”

Addressing media at ‘Meet the Press’ event here on Tuesday January 17, Kamath said, “In the last four-and-a-half years of my tenure, I have worked sincerely and relentlessly for the transformation of Mangaluru. I have faced certain challenges. So far Rs 4,750 crore funds have been brought for Mangaluru’s development with the help of central and state government. But due to certain challenges, the projects worth Rs 4,750 crore have not been implemented. We were severely affected due to monsoon for three years and the pandemic for two years, due to which some projects could not be implemented. By March this year, 75% of the development works will be completed. In Mangaluru city, we cannot complete the entire road works at a time. We should take up road works in phases.

“Rs 795 crore has been sanctioned for pipeline work under Jala Siri project in which 20-25 water tanks will also be built. Excavation of concrete roads is inevitable which only a few years old as the pipeline underneath the road is very old and needs to be changed keeping the 2,050-2,055 population in mind.

“The Smart City works worth Rs 1,000 crore have been taken up which is limited to 8 wards such as Bunder, Court ward, car street, and Port ward. We have taken up works like international swimming pool, Urwa sports complex, Mangala Stadium upgradation, river front project, hanging bridge in Sultan Battery, Kudru development, and Pumpwell-Padil road works. Apart from it, under PPP model, we have taken up projects like market in Kadri, Kankanady and central market worth Rs 145 crore, multi-level car parking, and commercial jetty. As an MLA, I have utilized the funds from the health, forest, agriculture and the Muzrai departments for certain projects in the city. In my constituency, 60 parks development and upgradation in is progress, 15-20 roundabouts will be developed which include Mahaveera circle at Pumpwell, and Koti Chennaya circle at Nandigudde. Hence, the target of completing all the works will be March 2025. The self-assessment system will be introduced in the Mangaluru City Corporation where even water bills will be paid through online in the coming days,” he said.

When asked about Urwa market, Kamath said, “We are convincing the shopkeepers shift to Urwa market. While the women selling fish have agreed, are few shopkeepers are yet to be convinced shift.”

On the housing project at Shaktinagar, Kamath said, “There were several hurdles regarding the project. Recently, an order was passed where construction of houses was allowed in the deemed forest area. Most probably in the month of February, the foundation stone will be laid for the project.”

On the government providing compensation to cooker bomb blast victim auto rickshaw driver, Kamath said, “As assured earlier, the government will provide the compensation to Purushottam Poojary. It is our duty to do so.”

Gas guys are digging roads and putting pipeline. It is development. But, it is private parties and private contracts. These parties are going to squeeze people once done. If tax money goes to such works, then people can get at reasonable prices. Tax payers built mangalore Airport is gone to private party, now its sqeezing people big time. Corruption is at peak. Until BJP govt loses at centre, no better days to people, that's sure.

Yes. We had heavy rainfall only since last 3 years. Prior to that it never rained in Mangalore and no work was done? Road work is not the only development? Tell us what have you done for the middle class people? Middle class is only paying taxes. What are they getting in return? Babaji ka thullu!

Mr. Kamath Sir, please do not cut trees at Shaktinagar forest to build free houses. There is empty barren land outside city. Shaktinagar forest is the only greenbelt area near to Mangalore city. 3 km from nantoor. People from Kulashekar, cordel, Shaktinagar, will start agitation if government will not stop this project.

Guys relax... he said he brought Rs 4,750 crore only and he didn't say he spent on development ..it went on MP and MLA'S pocket if u see the pathetic roads and infrastructure of mangaluru. Most of the money might have spent on changing the names of roads and airport.

As per the official statement from your govt any development is not important but love-jihad and communal riots are more important so all the funds have been utilized for winning elections by destroying the state. Just think blind heads, is this possible for you to carry on for long in an advanced civilized society??.?.?….

Rs.4750 Crore is fairly very good amount. We are eager to know how the money has been allocated and spent ,which new projects have been undertaken and completed and the quality of work and cost incurred for the same duly certified and verified by competent authorities. If it is satisfactory then we are proud of MLA for the great work done by him for his constituency.

Given the present condition of Mangalore and surroundings areas one can only get the feeling that this City looks like the ruins of Harappa and Mohanjadaro. Blaming monsoons and Covid for the haphazard way work is carried on is no excuse. One needs to ask inspire of Mangalore being well connected Sea, Air, Road and Rail, there are hardly any major industries in Mangalore South Kanara, despite majority of the locals being literate given the quality of education here. We can expect more such speeches as we move into election mode, Just hope the educated locals elect good leaders who work for the people not just those who spread hatred to garner votes. Jai Hind.

Stomach says all. Just try to walk from Bikarnakatte Kaikamba to Kulshekar Cross road. No way to walk. Even after alighting from bus school children, elders, even ordinary people struggle to find a way. Vehicles flying as if they will run you down. In rainy season full flowing canal. Need to keep chappal & shoes on your head and walk. Else your leather/school shoes gone forever in a day. What a pathetic state of affairs. One central minister from Maharashtra it seems Ntini Gadaa Kkori came long back making big announcements with hoardings everywhere. Nothing happened so far. Provide walking space to pedestrians first or you try to walk in this busy road in the mornings & evenings during rush hour and see. You will see fart city Mahatme. Failure to provide basics says it all. Those who travel in air conditioned vehicles with tax payer money can't understand peoples problems.
